Your towing rigs and trailers

I've always liked the rollback trailers... only used one once and it was sweet.

For little stuff I use the tilt rail trailer and for big stuff... I use the PJ with hinged ramps on the back.

Here's my rig. I'm jealous of all of those who have 3/4 ton or bigger trucks with diesel engines. I used to have a 3/4 ton diesel and it made towing so easy. Still I'm always pleasantly surprised at how well this little grand Cherokee tows. The jeep is surprisingly heavy for such a little vehicle (5100 pounds) and with hydroneumatic self leveling rear shocks and the short rear overhang, it handles tongue weight very well. It's no 3/4 ton diesel, but does fine for local towing of loads near it's max recommended trailer weight of 7,200 pounds. The trailer is a 10,000 GVW 14 footer. In the picture I had just remembered that this tractor is taller than the last one and can't fit in the barn while on the trailer. I stopped just inches shy of hitting the sliding door track. Happy I remembered in time!

It took a while but I finally got (almost) 500 miles on my new truck. At about 473 miles I had a need for a compact track loader to help with some grading in a few spots too tight for my tractor to fit in. So I rented a CAT 259D from a local rental yard and loaded it up on my PJ deckover gooseneck equipment trailer. Below are a few cell phone pics I took along the way.

This thing is a beast towing. The trailer and loader weigh in at about 14,000 pounds as you see it in the pictures. While I was never disappointed with the power of my LML DMax/Allison, this truck does seem to stay at lower RPM for longer. Also the suspension does seem to take the weight a bit better, although admittedly the Chevy was a 3/4 ton and not a 1 ton. Anyhow, I just figured I'd share these pics with everyone. I'm very pleased with this truck and strongly recommend a 3500 SRW Cummins/Aisin for anyone thinking about buying one and still on the fence. This truck is definitely an improvement on my uncle's 2012 Ram 3500.

Gladehound, I agree with you the grand Cherokee is very different from a hd diesel but like you said they tow remarkably well. Good looking jeep! Does it have the hemi?

Nice Rig!! If you don't mind me asking what did you use for leveling? I've got a '14 1500 that I am slowly warming to the idea of leveling. Never looked into leveling/lifting previously and have been reading up. Debating between a leveling kit vs using adjustable shocks.
