I guess you are talking about the 2008 V-10 you got? That's about par from what I read as far as mpg go. So does it have a 4.10 gear?

Chris

Yep Chris, V-10 with 4.10 rear end. At 6500 miles I am averaging 10.7 mpg.

Here is the new trailer!

Here is my new set-up.

2008 Ford F350 6.4 Powerstroke with Tow Boss package and Reese Strait-Line 1700 hitch pulling a Econoline 7 ton tilt and my JD 5420 minus the FEL. Total GCVW 22,584 lbs (Tractor & Trailer = 13,554 & Truck w/driver = 9,030).

These pictures were taken Friday when I towed the tractor into the dealer for the 600 hour service (valve & clutch lever adjustments). We had a great pull through the hills of Pennsylvania from Barton NY to Tunkhannock PA.

Don't let the pictures fool you. The set-up sits nice and level on even ground. It is a bit deceiving in the pictures.

i have 1 question i have a 16' deck trailer with individual ramps, what do you guys do with the truck when unloading. do you leave it in park or in gear, with or without the park brake on. just wondering if all of the moving backand forth is doing any damage to my tranny.

I just put the truck in Park

I have unloaded/loaded the skidloader hundreds of times with no ill effects

Park brake would be a good idea especially if unlevel

Both "park" and the parking brake only act on the rear tires so if you are on a signicant hill you would be wise to block the front tires of the truck too to avoid rolling away when you lighten the rear end of the truck as you drive off the back of the trailer.

I leave it in park, set the P-brake every time.

Here's my F350 with 2.5 cords (10,000#) of cargo plus a 2500# trailer, plus a 7500# truck. Right at GCWR of 20,000.

This is off topic but what you guys are describing happened more than once. There was a guy on here that ended up with wrecked truck, tractor, trailer, plus a couple broken bones. He was loading in a gravel drive with a slight incline. As the tractor went on the trailer it lightened the rear of the truck and off it went. He got scared and jumped, shortly after the truck crashed into a tree sending the tractor that was still in gear into the back of the truck.

This was not a big tractor. Something like a 25Hp Kubota and if I remember right it was a large 1 ton dually that took off on him. He said if he would have been thinking the only way to stop it would have been to hurry the tractor up on the trailer to put weigh on the tongue and maybe make the rear wheels stop it. Maybe not. Either way once its sliding its hard to stop. I see it 5 or more times a year at the lake. Guys with a big truck will pull it into the lake with a 3,000# bass boat. They always say the same thing, I had it in park with the brake set. I never ever launch a boat with out the truck in 4 high. This way when you put it in park you are locking up the front and rear axle.
