Your towing rigs and trailers

After having several Diesels with issues... my neighbor is back to towing his 12,000 lb enclosed trailer with a gasser... 2013 3/4 suburban.

He did say the most reliable tow vehicle to date was his 99 Diesel Excursion and that was also towing a 12,000 lb trailer 600 miles weekly 40 weeks a year.

The local Chevrolet Dealer said gasser sales have picked up... time will tell.

Also the fact is you can't buy a big SUV with a Diesel. Gas is your Only option. The Excursion was your ONLY option when it cam to a diesel in a big SUV and they stopped in 05

New tow rig/work truck for me...'97 F350 7.5 liter gasser 30k miles, frame is all there. Has a cab corner that needs attention and a couple soft spots in the bed. Came with a 9' plow as well:

Nice find.

Here's my set-up. Hadn't planned on using this truck to pull heavy but sometimes you have to make things work. Probably about 30k gross or close to it

Thanks! I've been debating/looking at dump trailers and this came up for sale just down the road from me. Couldn't pass it up, especially with the plow and for basically what a new 10k GVW dump trailer goes for. Now I can tow my tractor and have a dump!

Not for the first time, I wish I lived in Texas....

Here, you'd need all the relevant annual safeties done, and a Class A CDL. Short of that, the fines you'd collect would be enough to offset a good chunk of the provincial debt....

Nice setup Rusty - does your truck have the optional adjustable pedals, for that really short driver ? ;)

The killer is the GVWR. Weigh that truck and you will find 1500 to 2000# is about all it can haul "legally".

My friend has the same exact truck. Is yours a electric hydraulic pump or pto driven? His is electric and a few times we have had yo shovel off some before it would dump.

I still have to do the pedals for my helper. He can steer pretty good so far.

As far as weight a class a dl, and comm inspection for truck/trailer to be legal. I haven't pulled across the scales but I'd be pretty close to legal. My trailer is a farm trailer and buys me some leeway as far as registered weight. This is all personal. If I'm doing professional, I use another setup.

AFAIK, Farm here (high weight) is on an SMV tagged wagon, low speed only. If you get away with anything else, the officer was in a good mood that day.

Other than RV trailers, you need a class A CDL to tow more that 10k# here. With a General license (what most people commonly have), we are limited to 24,000# combined.
