Your towing rigs and trailers

How long is your trailer? I get 10 round bales on mine. A row of three on each side laying down like yours and a row of two on top of each of those for a total of ten. My Kubota is too short in the britches to put the top two bales on the pyramid or I could get a dozen.

Isn't customizing a truck fun? The list of mods on my 1 ton Dodge Cummins is like a phone book. I have just started on my 2008 F-250 with a spray on bed liner but where will it end?

About the dually burn out tracks on the driveway. Whatr were you trying to do, move the house?

trailer is 21' with the dovetail. we did 11 rolls that time..but I have done 12..double stacked like you said..but it didn't feel as safe. So if i need to do 12..I will do 11 on the trailer and one in the bed.

yep customizing it is fun..breaking it isn't..lol pushing the limits of a 6.0 is fun..cause there aren't alot of people doing it..they are trying but its big $$ to make them fast..and reliable for a DD and towing..right now I have it pretty well rounded.. dynoed at 438/859 with no NOS

the burnouts are just for fun..people dont expect itr..so I have to prove them wrong..LOL

The truck and the trailer are in the back ground, the truck isn't so pretty but it works good.

I have only lost one bale off the trailer while driving too fast over uneven terrain in the pasture while starting out with 10 not strapped down at all. I would not feel unsure about 12 if I could get the other two up there for just transport from field to hay barn. Too tall for highway even if strapped down securely and not good for taking GT forces from the side.

I was some surprised you mention NOS for a diesel. I am not familiar with its application to hopping up a diesel. Propane is the "happy gas" of choice of all the race crazed dudes I have met (limited number.)

My '97 Dodge/Cummins is the last of the 12 valve (original recipe) Cummins. It has no chips to mess with, just plain old fashion setup. I did replace the intake manifold when I undid the California version with EGR which introduced flow turbulence and unbalanced flow to the cylinders. I swapped out the injector pump and injectors to higher pressure system with finer spray pattern. Got more HP, more torque, and a little better MPG at the same time but it is possible to get the EGT run up too high if you leave your foot in it all the way up a steep grade pulling and carrying a heavy load. Just have to back off just a tad on the long steep grades. No trouble hitting the speed limit but much more speed with steep grade and heavy loading can run the EGT a tad high. Maybe I'm just too cautious but I don't want to overheat anything.

I have an aux OD (Gear Vendors over/under drive) so I can make about 85 at 2000 RPM. I am running 19.5 Alcoas and Michelin Steel belted radials like the old UPS trucks used before the Sprinter. All custom springs including elliptical front coils for a nice progressive action and dual Bilstein gas charged shocks. I installed a Stahl Grand Challenger service body and customized that too. I carry a pair of 220AH 6 volt golf card batts in custom compartments in the wheel wells (wired in series for 12 volts.) Lots of mods to accomodate carrying the largest slide in camper that Lancer made in '97.

There are those little things for convenience like remoting the canister type fuel filter from where it costs $90 labor to change it to a spin-on in plain sight under the hood.

I have no intention of going quite so crazy with this 3/4 ton Powerjoke. After all it is only intended to replace a '89 Dakota "beater" and have the guts to handle my new dump trailer. I was surprised at the 0-60 performance of the Powerjoke in this crew cab short bed 4x4. Quite exhilarating. It is my first vehicle with sat rad and I like the comedy chan. I have to get the backup cam installed and the GPS and make provisions for some of my comm radios (HAM, CB, GMRS) Even with no intention of going very far upgrading this truck, there is still quite a list of little nice to haves.

Oh, and by the way for those who haven't used one... The built in electric brake controller that Ford built in is pretty darned good so there is one extra I won't have to add.

What is top speed in under drive?

I don't really know. 2000 RPM is about 60 running 1:1 in the aux OD. I don't like to run it much in the yellow and try to avoid the red on the tach. Red is 3000 and would be about 90 or so.

They sell over or under drives. I went with 4.10 diffs and selected the overdrive option for the aux. With the aux in overdrive mode I get about 85 at 2000 which would be about 127 at 3000. I have had it in excess of 100 several times but don't recall ever running it over 120. It still is accelerating up at the top end but I don't like to run it that hard.

Oh, I forgot to mention real speeds are a bit faster as I didn't change the gear driving the speedo and the 19.5's go further per rev than the stock 16's. I have since changed the gear but the one speed transducer (converts rotary motion to electrical signal to drive electronic speedo is needing replaced so I am using GPS for speedo till I do that.

I only run in OD-OD (double OD) when lightly loaded and I can maintain at least 65 so I don't go below max torgue RPM. Pulling hills in 3rd "over" sure is wonderful compared to 3rd in the stock configuration where yo are limited to about 50 to avoid over reving even thouh you are not HP limited. The Dodge tranny is essentially missing a gear between 3rd and OD. Having 8 forward speeds allows you to find a gear to match the load, hill, and engine capability nicely.

Hope this came close to answering your query.

I thought you had an over AND underdrive, and I was wondering what the gear reduction for it was, and the overdrive increaser ratio. Been a while since I had seen one that was both, and was interested. Used to have a jeep that somebody put a OD/UD unit on it, and it was nice. Durn thing had too many gearshifts though. Regular tranny, high low, transfer case, Rear PTO, and the gear reduction/overdriver(5 shifters!, worse than a Mack triplex)

I thought you had an over AND underdrive,

Sorry for the confusioin David. The nomenclature is the maker's not mine. They call it an over/under drive and sell it in both versions, under and over but to my knowledge not both which wold be neat.

I elected to go for 4.10 gears and the overdrive version. The unit is actually a two speed transmission, straight through 1:1 and (in my case) an overdrive ratio. They can be fitted (with more difficulty) in the input shaft of the transfer case so you can use it in 4x4 high and low too. Mine is mounted on the rear wheel output from the xfer case so can't be used in 4x4 low range but I sure don't mind not having that capability.

The unit will shift up or down at full throttle and loves it. It does not like to be loaded up backwards so no back dragging in aux OD (Especially no exhaust brake in aux OD). The shift command is a switch like an old fashioned dimmer switch on the floor to the left of the driver's pedals. If you can't rub your tummy and pat your head at the same time or walk and chew bubble gum at the same time you will not like this style aux trany.

I like the unit I have because it fixes the Dodge "missing gear" problem in the automatic trany. In the stock trany the step between 3rd and 4th (OD) is way too big. If you can't pull a hill in 4th you have to slow down to about 50 to not over rev in 3rd. With thr Gear Vendors aux OD unit there is 8 forward speeds and one of them will be a good match for just about any load-grade combination.

What the world needs now is a super stout and rugged high efficiency, cheap to buy and maintain CVT for high torque trucks.
