I have done 12..double stacked like you said..but it didn't feel as safe. So if i need to do 12..I will do 11 on the trailer and one in the bed.
I have it pretty well rounded.. dynoed at 438/859 with no NOS
the burnouts are just for fun..people dont expect itr..so I have to prove them wrong..LOL
I have only lost one bale off the trailer while driving too fast over uneven terrain in the pasture while starting out with 10 not strapped down at all. I would not feel unsure about 12 if I could get the other two up there for just transport from field to hay barn. Too tall for highway even if strapped down securely and not good for taking GT forces from the side.
I was some surprised you mention NOS for a diesel. I am not familiar with its application to hopping up a diesel. Propane is the "happy gas" of choice of all the race crazed dudes I have met (limited number.)
My '97 Dodge/Cummins is the last of the 12 valve (original recipe) Cummins. It has no chips to mess with, just plain old fashion setup. I did replace the intake manifold when I undid the California version with EGR which introduced flow turbulence and unbalanced flow to the cylinders. I swapped out the injector pump and injectors to higher pressure system with finer spray pattern. Got more HP, more torque, and a little better MPG at the same time but it is possible to get the EGT run up too high if you leave your foot in it all the way up a steep grade pulling and carrying a heavy load. Just have to back off just a tad on the long steep grades. No trouble hitting the speed limit but much more speed with steep grade and heavy loading can run the EGT a tad high. Maybe I'm just too cautious but I don't want to overheat anything.
I have an aux OD (Gear Vendors over/under drive) so I can make about 85 at 2000 RPM. I am running 19.5 Alcoas and Michelin Steel belted radials like the old UPS trucks used before the Sprinter. All custom springs including elliptical front coils for a nice progressive action and dual Bilstein gas charged shocks. I installed a Stahl Grand Challenger service body and customized that too. I carry a pair of 220AH 6 volt golf card batts in custom compartments in the wheel wells (wired in series for 12 volts.) Lots of mods to accomodate carrying the largest slide in camper that Lancer made in '97.
There are those little things for convenience like remoting the canister type fuel filter from where it costs $90 labor to change it to a spin-on in plain sight under the hood.
I have no intention of going quite so crazy with this 3/4 ton Powerjoke. After all it is only intended to replace a '89 Dakota "beater" and have the guts to handle my new dump trailer. I was surprised at the 0-60 performance of the Powerjoke in this crew cab short bed 4x4. Quite exhilarating. It is my first vehicle with sat rad and I like the comedy chan. I have to get the backup cam installed and the GPS and make provisions for some of my comm radios (HAM, CB, GMRS) Even with no intention of going very far upgrading this truck, there is still quite a list of little nice to haves.
Oh, and by the way for those who haven't used one... The built in electric brake controller that Ford built in is pretty darned good so there is one extra I won't have to add.
