5740 here with 60+ hours.

Used for plowing, tree grubbing, herbicide spraying and round bale moving. Soon to be used for small square bailing and stacking.

My Dealer dropped Montana due to their price increases, "Said he could not compete with the Massey dealer down the road" and no dealer within a 100 miles, I would probably would not look at buying another Montana for that reason alone.

2005 4540 w/ fel w/ forks and bucket
bout 100hrs
use it for bushhogging, box blade, rotary tiller, disking. fel used for anything its capable of. gravel, sand, dirt, lumber, ect.

extremely pleased w/ the tractor. plenty of horsepower, pleasure to use.

extremely disappointed w/ loader. capacity is measured 375-400 lbs less than rated lift. dealer checked/adjusted hydraulics. helped but still weak. i had a 1987 ford model 1910 30hp that would lift considerably more. prolly 600lbs more.

the newer curved boom loaders are built heavier, mounted better, and have larger cylinders. not sure if they have more lift but surely they have.

anyone else have any comments on the older stright loaders?

Hi guys , I have a 2007 4940 with 60 hours on it .
I agree that what Montana says it will lift with the front end loader and what it actually is capable of lifting is two different animals.
The only problem that I still have from day one is the fuel sending unit , it would get stuck , so the dealer worked on it and said it was fixed but no luck .The dealer now thinks it may have the wrong sending unit in it from factory because when it reads empty and you put in a 5 gallon jerry can of diesel it goes from completely empty to full . This explains why I thought it was so hard on fuel(would go thru 5 gallons then read empty). If anyone else has experienced this please let me know. Other than this it has worked fine , it starts unbelievable in the cold Alberta cold . I used it in -38 weather this winter and other than stiff hydraulics it worked perfect. Anyhow thats my 2 cents.

Hey Montana Green.... My 4340 has the same problem with the fuel gauge. When it reads empty you can count on about 8 gallons... a long way from the 13 or so it holds... I guess Montana really doesn't want you to run out of fuel. Ever!! But it would be nice if the gauge was somewhat accurate. The way it works now it just tells you when you are full! :D

Hello everyone,

5740C
48 Hours

Used for Cutting and Baling around 60 acres of grass hay - Will probably do around 90 acres this year. Also for all the other general farming stuff. Road grading, discing small areas of pasture for seed preparation, digging and grading around the house, stump removal and pulling my 2 wheel drive old farmall out of the mud.

I would consider another Montana just due to the price alone. To get the same features in a Deere with the same HP it would cost about 15,000 more.

Only 2 complaints so far: 1- Stiff shifting on the 4 speed selector - kinda hard to find 3rd and 4th sometimes. 2- Poor quality of some of the smaller rubber hoses and caps. They seem to be aging and cracking prematurely.

I have a 4940c with 160 hours.
Used for hay, general farm work, road maintenance, garden work, and any other excuse I can find to use it.
I would buy a Montana again without hesitation. No problems so far.

What model Montana do you own? 3940HST:D

How many hours on your Montana? 65 hours, all snowremoval:mad:

What do you use it for? Hobby Farm, landscape (not contract work)

Would you consider buying Montana again? Yes! I would only buy one if it came with a service manual.

Any other input?
Really nice machine, lots of options included (rear hyd). I went one model bigger to get the Mitsubishi engine and don't regret it!

Cheers,
Mike

What model Montana do you own?
-4940C Blue in colour with Green FEL. It's name is "Buddy"
How many hours on your Montana?
-approx. 150
What do you use it for?
-Have 5foot shredder, FEL with pallet forks and quick attach, Box blade, rear blade, Bush hog PHD, 8 foot disc (on loan), logging tongs, 7 foot shredder (on loan), grapple on FEL bucket, pulling neighbour's 75 hp JD and 7 foot shreadder out of the mud (love the creeper mode).
-Use it for logging, doing spring plowing right now, driving T-posts, installing steel fence posts, 11 foot high work platform (better than ladder), digging up septic lines, and anything else I can think of in order to use it.
Would you consider buying Montana again?
-had a bad gas tank which took forever to get replaced (under warranty), also leaking hydraulic line and bad cylinder. But love the tractor. The cab is great as it gets really hot here in East Texas in the summer and the A/C keeps me nice and cool. I'd buy another Montana in a heart beat. Really need better dealers in the area though. Nearest one is a 1 1/2 drive away and at the price of diesel.......well, you know.
Any other input?
Having a heck of a time finding a place to install ammo box for chains and pins etc. Got a nice tool kit with the tractor but don't have a good place to put it. Got the new coffee cup holder, but broke it the other day....pity. Also have installed a portable 12volt cooler on right side of cab. Nice to have cold water and other beverages. My controls on the cab model come installed on the fender and I love it that way.
One thing my FEL bounces pretty hard when I lift it up when just starting up (hyd. fluid cold). Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,
Stampeder (transplanted Calgarian living in Texas and loving it).

for soda or coffee holder and a place to put pins and stuff I went to walmart to the boat section they a box that was held in place with suction cups. I got one with a cup holder built in and one without. I have them on each inner finder and they are held in place by the suction cups attached to the cab window. Nice cheap solution and works very well. Wont help with the chain issue but for your hookup pins etc it works well.

What model Montana do you own? T7074
How many hours on your Montana? 58
What do you use it for? Road maintenance; brush hogging; fencing and construction (post holes, lifting, dirt work) pasture maintenance, building a pond, moving hay bales; raking; baling (later on)
Would you consider buying Montana again? In a heartbeat. I love this tractor!

I'm still looking for a way to store some tools and a dozer chain. I've got all the 3-pt controls on the right hand fender, and the electric cooler and cup holders on the right-hand fender. I'm thinking about getting a small truck tool box to throw behind the seat, but that doesn't cover the dozer chain. Right now it's laying on the floor in front of the seat, but it gets in my way there. Any ideas?

Here's a couple photos of us lifting a new hot tub up on the back porch deck right after I got the tractor last October. That was the first real job we used it for. It's done a lot more since then.

What?
I own a Montana 4540 with FEL, bought in March, 2005.

Hours?
250 hours.

Use?
Bush hogging with a 5 ft Bushog, small tree removal, field reclamation, road maintenance, trail maintenance, and otherwise general use, on a 200 acre plus wilderness farm in middle Tennessee.

Would I considering buying Montana again?

Probably not. The dealer that I bought it from offered service and support, even though they were a good 75 miles away. They no longer sell or service Montana tractors. The next closest Montana dealer is about 100 plus miles away, basically worthless to me except for ordering parts. I cannot order parts directly from Montana Why Why, WHY? Don't talk to me about Montana's need to support their dealers.) The service manual (yes, I have one, but it was hard to get and is about as entertaining as the user manual. Anybody need procedures for safely crossing a rice paddy levee?)

Is this beginning to sound familiar to any other Montana tractor owners?

Some of the parts of the tractor are beginning to appear a bit fragile to sustain My needs. Specifically, the bottom side exposure to the clutch and brake mechanisms and the location of the hydraulic filter. I have to be careful to avoid rock and stump damage. The boom on the FEL(apparently I have the old straight kind) is easily bent out of alignment Occasional tree therapy is required to keep it some what straight. There are other complaints, but this is not the forum for them. Many could be overcome with the help of a cooperative local dealer and with owner improvisation. I feel left out in the cold.

For a replacement tractor, I will go back to where I started from, and look for a suitable previously owned Ford/New Holland or JD.

Other Input?

My Montana 4540 is a stout tractor, mostly very well built, and seldom fails to perform. I like the Mitsubishi engine. Based on my complaints, you may be inclined to say that I didn't buy enough tractor to fulfill my needs. you may be right. A larger new Montana would have been out of my price range.

I am not necessarily down on Montana tractors as much as I am on the lack of support.

Having said all of this, I guess any and all blame associated with dissatisfaction of my tractor selection lies with me. My previous tractor was a Belarus. LOL anybody?

I have the 3644 HST with FEL that has about 180 hrs. Great unit and great local dealer in Nichols, NY. I use it for finish mowing on 4 acres, box blade on quarter mile long access road, root grapple for tree & limb clean up and loader work. Great product and will purchase another if needed.

- Montana 4940, purchased May '05.
- 900ish hours.
- Used for contract mowing, contract box blade/front loader work, and other random tractor chores.
- I would consider buying Montana again. My local dealer quit selling them, and never knew how to work on them. I found another dealer who is very good, but is 3 hours away,(Williams Tractor & Powersports). So there is a sacrifice for me personally, on the distance for service.
- All in all, its been a great tractor for me. By the time I am called to brush hog the 32, approximatley 2 acre sized sites I maintain, they have let the weeds grow between 5' to 8' tall. I mow with a 6' brush hog, and it handles this decently. (The stuff that grows above my roll bar is definetly slow mowing though.)

Montana 5740C with a curved FEL , R4 tires, Montana grapple, box blade, hay spear, hydraulic remote 84 inch rear blade all delivered April 13, 2008. I owned a Zetor 5245 with loader we traded in. I own a post hole digger, 72" snow blower, Bush Hog Squealer 60" brush cutter, 2 furrow plow and a discer which all should be a breeze for the Montana to run! Now I have many implements.
hours-came with 9.9 (dealer demo), now at 12.0
-used on our 25 acre farm. We have mini horses, quarter horses, 4 Irish Dexter cows and honey bees and lots of poultry. We will be fencing the perimeter of the property and building my wife Sandy a large horse barn this summer.
I have already moved some large round hay bales, effortlessly! Played with the grapple, I have over 60 large, 50 foot felled Spruce trees to move...and more to cut down! The grapple works like a charm!
-Thus far, I would buy another Montana, but I hope this won't be necessary for many years, I plan on babying this one! We were looking at a JD 4720, but they charge for every little thing, whereas the Montana had all items included. $744 for a radio... come on JD what are you thinking??
-Our dealer, Bob of RC Weidmark in Magnetawan ON has been great!!
Now if the ground can only dry, I will be able to go and play!

I have a 2006 model R4944HST with FEL and about 85 hours on it. Should I ever need a larger machine, I'll definitely look at Montana first. I use it to mow my 7.4acre spread with a 6' finish mower, move materials around, smooth the driveway with a box blade, disc the veggie garden, and soon it will be used to move and turn compost from the small scale fresh egg business I'm getting into. I have yet to find a job around here that it can't do. At 6'6" and 285lbs, the platform on the R-series tractors is just perfect. I looked at the 3040's and such, but they just weren't comfortable, I was cramped, and the CK series Kioti's were terrible. I was waiting for Kioti to release the HST version of their DK series tractors when the R-series came out and I was sold. I am so glad I went with the top power level in that series too. I have never managed to run out of power and feel like I could probably tackle some good sized jobs with this machine - and the hydrostatic drive is so stupid simple a monkey could drive it.
