so i'm not asking the value of my tractor that i'll sell next Spring. Just anticipating the sale. i will not sell & transport online, just locally, but will advertise locally online.
decided to pass on the 10% Kubota dealer commission charge for on lot sale. Feeling my M series pre Tier4 tractor w/ less than 1k hrs will command a good price

So what is your method of sales? MarketPlace? surely not Craigs? thanks in advance for your own experience & thoughts, best regards

I'm surprised any dealer today would do it for 10%. I'd try that route rather than deal with the general population.thanks you.
thank you. i've wondered that. have a good relationship with them as i've purchased 4 tractors from them. they have a huge circulation given the growth in my area. just looking at options, thx again

Whenever I am selling anything, I get it to a spot were if I was looking to purchase it, I would not be able to find anything that I could use as a bargaining point to lower the asking price. I get annoyed when I look at items for sale, and they list stuff that isn,t up to par, mention that it is an easy fix, but don,t bother to fix it. For me, that implies laziness on the sellers part, and makes me wonder about maintenance items being ignored as well. Make it a no defects able to be found item. For the majority of items I have ever sold, the first person to come and actually look at the item I have for sale, buys it because of the first impression the item makes. Also, when they have a look around and see the condition of the other items I own, but aren,t for sale, that re-inforces the fact that all my stuff is very well taken care of.

When I sold mine, I did a FB Marketplace add, (actually had my son do it), had about a dozen pictures, included make (spelled right...), model, shown hours, condition, and a honest description.

What i see often, wrong model (they list the numbers shown on loader, not tractor), misspelled Kabota; no description, 2 pictures that dont show pertinent info.

If I had the option of letting a dealer do it for just 10% of the sale price, I would have Jumped at that,

Financing, credit card, etc is something a dealer can do that opens it up for many more potential buyers, compared to you selling for cash only.

10% is a good deal IMHO and saves you a lot of aggravation dealing with tire kickers, time wasters, and keeps anonymous psychopaths away from your home. If the dealership takes payment from the buyer and gives you a cheque then you avoid dealing with rubber cheques and deadbeat buyers.

read these article about another argument against using FB marketplace and selling from your home

One advantage with FB Marketplace is that you can partially vette potential buyers prior to even dealing with them. Surprising how many scammers will just use a practically blank account to conduct their "business".
I generally specify in the ad "no low ballers", "price not negotiable", and "if it's listed, it's available". I don't bother responding to anything outside of those boundaries.

All that said, for a big ticket item like a tractor, I think commissioning a dealer to sell it would be worth 10%.

Not to go too far into FB Market, but a couple things as a browser/buyer...

1) Put your dang price in the ad, not make me a fair offer, not $12345, not $1, ect

2) If you say no messaging, you need a good contact number

3) Be specific, not 70hp Kubota tractor; model, year, hours, transmission, loader, attachments, auxiliary hydralics, ect.
