My grandparents who were quite comfortable in the home they built would fair ok as would most of their neighbors...

The white wedgewood oven in the kitchen was wood one side and electric the other... the radiant heat in the home was wood fired basement boiler... no electricity needed.

Grandpa a lifelong bee keeper had plenty of beeswax candles.

Water was spring fed and no pump required.

Basement had cold storage root cellar...

True no freezer ice but they did cut ice in winter from the pond and had an ice house... guess that could be used again.

The creek has a small turbine from the 30's only function to charge battery for the radio...

Mom's nearby godfather had a water powered mill for grain and a small DC generator for lights and charge batteries.

Not sure how city folks will make it but country folks will with a return to the old ways with wood and farm life.

Some old-order communities today would not even notice. Big transition for most everybody else.

Interesting questions DQ raised - paraphrasing - For a fraction of what we spend on __________ , we could harden the entire grid.

Even basic camping skills would make a difference..... when there are no more Ytube videos, for a looonnggg time.

On break @ work last night, came across this one. I haven't seen under the suitcase on these Hondas, so had a look.....

Seems like the owner needed an EV generator instead . This guy posting has some nice test-gear, and way more patience than I usually do..... I've never seen a gen Detailed before !

Looks like he has some other Eu teardown vids.... I'll get to those later.

Several years ago I acquired an EU2000i because it was burning a lot of oil.
I bought the repair manual & disassembled it to determine cause.
No obvious problem found so I replaced the rings & I wasn’t quite happy with how it idled after the repair. In the process of removing the tamper resistant cap on low speed adjustment I broke the screw & had to order a replacement. After installing the screw I started it up adjusted the idle mixture then put a progressive load on it starting at 500 watts then 1000 then 1500 watts.
I ran a tank of fuel thru it during test/breakin and it now runs like a Honda
Awesome machines!!
Anyone who worries about heat & lights should have one.

I also have the EU2000i. It is indeed a great generator. My only complaint is, it's single phase and won't run our well pump.

I'm thinking of getting a second EU2000i and the connector cable that allows the two gennys to run in parallel. Doubles the amperage but not the voltage. Together they still won't run the well pump but just about everything else.

That way, I won't have to run the tractor PTO generator 24/7.

I have a Honda 2000 generator, also a Honda 2800 and I like the 2800 a LOT better.

You can’t get better than a Honda.
I wouldn’t mind having a fuel injected EU7000i. No carb issues & instant starts. I think you can even connect via Bluetooth.

Put the battery charger on and ran up the old 6.5 Emerald this afternoon. Expecting about a foot of blowing snow which often drifts over the roads 12' deep or more... Followed of course by freezing rain. These events have typically result in being snowed in to the west and and without power anywhere from 1 to 3 days. This also means no internet or tv but I will keep myself entertained, I have a pile of books and no end of things that need fixing.
