Googled the continous run thing and there sure is conflicting information. Some generators have temperature rise specs as well.

Depending on outside temperatures, my Fridge isn't the greatest at keeping cool in the absense of power, so that's often the basis of keeping a generator running even though I don't need it. Or restarting it, sooner rather than later.

I’d suspect it’s mainly to limit warranty exposure.

A small unit should be thermally stabilized after an hour for sure.

500-1000kw alternators can take 4 or 5 hours and 2MW can take 12 hours to stabilize at full load. Often the initial testing for the larger units is 24hrs or more at full load. The engines typically stabilize in half the time as the alternator.

Yeah......that's the problem.....
I don't know where the manual is.
I will look some more.

I am not completely stuck for water in an outage though.
I do have a deep well hand pump just outside the kitchen door of this old house.
Pump bucket full, and dump in toilet tank, if absolutely necessary!

If it is cold out there, the pumping will warm me up!

Old School.... like wood...... which heats you 3 times :).

As a kid, I helped my uncle setup an A frame and pull the hand-pump out of the well, so we could change the leather at the bottom. They had a drilled well too, for the main-house, but that hand-pump pulled up the best tasting drinking water I've ever had..... so they kept it in operation.

Nice to have a backup, when everything else fails....

i generally dont let my gen run during prolonged outage during the day, but if i had a power outage on a day like today i probably would. woke up to 15F, and while its sunny out, it feals likw it may have warmed up to 16F.

theres a wind, and it chills to the bone.

i was out in shop getting tractor all chained up and had heater on. i forget how spoiled i am. heat in shop, backup generator, 4x4 cart to get around property. its nice to be spoiled.

More like enjoying the fruit of your labor...

Fantastic!
That is exactly the generator I have!
Using 746 watts per running HP, and assuming a start load x3, it should work, even x4 would seem to work..
Interpolating from the chart at the last page though, it still looks a bit iffy.

It is cold here now, so I'm not going to see what the pump (in a pit) label says.
I do have an exact duplicate pump so will check that motor decal tomorrow.

Everybody needs a spare pump!
They only quit on Friday evenings of holiday weekends.

Thank you!...Thank you!... Thank you!
I sure do miss my Nova Scotia friends of the past 13 years!
Wonderful people!
Long ago, spent a military year with the Newfies.....even better !!!

Sometimes I get lucky :)...... now I could use some more luck.... chasing down a dome light on a 2006 vehicle, that I've been told is NLA (GGGRRRR...... :mur: ).

Good people down east..... I've got relatives in NS, and used to vacation there as a kid.

Is it possible to go to The Rock, and not have a good time ?

A lot of first-timers got stranded in Gander, on 9/11. When I heard how many planes were stranded there, I knew that everybody's couch and spare room were full with people From Away..... many have gone back to visit since.

"They only quit on Friday evenings of holiday weekends."..... and esp. during forest-fire season.....

My welder doubles as my generator so I guess this counts.

Went out to start a new project tonight, only been about two weeks since I last welded so not long. Oil and air filter looked fine from the inspection panel so I hit the start button. Chicken feathers, dry grass, lint, pieces of paper and cardboard started flying out of every opening from the control panel to the exhaust. Near as I can tell a mouse built a nest right on the cooling fan.

Hope he was in it!

Mice do seem to like generators, and esp. the bigger ones.

It's crazy how big a nest they'll build sometimes....
