yep, nope... he was born in Norway. Wind is my bane... I don't care too much about the temp, just keep the wind below 5mph and I'm happy.

If I can keep moving, I can still handle cold fairly well, tho not quite like my younger daze. Moderate wind I can dress for, but find wind irritating when trying to work outside - often complicates tasks.....

Iceman grs...... good thing he as a great generator setup for Summer heat !

What is strange is the lack of smoke smell but ash is everywhere...

That is odd..... watching some of your orange-sky videos on the news...... you'd think you'd be choking on the smoke-smell by the look of that.

Forest fires that I've been nowhere near could be smelt a long way off..... and I don't have the greatest sense of smell. Probably big studies are done (ash is a fertilizer, for one thing), but I'd guess that ash doesn't usually travel as far as the "smell" particles - at least that's how small fires seem to behave.

Hopefully it clears soon..... what you really need is rain, but if that hits hard, that's a problem too.....

Just curious..... my neighbour is sure his wife is trying to put him into therapy.

She likes the A/C about where you run yours, but has the heat dialed at 80 in the Winter. The funny part (to me) is he is an HVAC contractor..... guess she just likes the product !

About like mine, keep it cold in the summer,
and hot in the winter.

If my wife ever tried to make the house 80 in winter, id turn on the ac of open the windows. Thankfully she never complains about the temp.

A wise man doesn't try using logic on that situation....... electricity costs can pile up, but nothing like divorce bills !

Cold has the advantage - you can always put more clothes on, tho many people don't do that indoors.

True, and in the heat, you can only remove so much clothing until you get arrested.

Revisiting the soft start vs hard start discussions earlier in this thread.
After researching the Hyper Engineering “Sure Start” I figured I would investigate further and plunked down the $275 to buy one to test. I installed it on a 3-1/2 ton heat pump. Here is the before and after results as measured on my clamp on ammeter set to capture peak reading. The before was with a hard start, the after was with a sure start.
I would have to say that while expensive, the sure start does what it claims to do, and I would now recommend one to anybody wanting to run AC or Heat Pump equipment with a generator.

yup.... i have installed quite a few of these over the past 3-4 years. Not cheap, but they have allowed ac units to operate under generator loads that would not run before. Last mondays 14 hour outage at my house. When the ac cycled the lights barely flickered....barely noticeable. The led lights only slightly. The incandescent not at all. The generator did not labor to run during use. Before soft start, i had to use a load shed device to prevent 97 amp draw at startup on my ac unit... a 4 ton.

One last thing a hyper engineering soft start does, it prevents a ac compressor from running in reverse when transfer switch returns to utility power. In the fractional time a transfer switch uses to switch back to utility, there have bern complaints that a running scroll compressor can run backwards. Normally the unit will shut itself down and restart after a delay when this happens, but cant be healthy for it. The soft start prevents this from happening.

Ac set to 78...yeiks. At 72 i melt. My ac is set to 68.

I'm still learning as the place was an estate sale with lots of custom owner built features...

A/C is almost non existent here and never lived in a home with it... heck, growing up the only time the furnace was on is when the great aunt's came for Christmas.

It was around a 100 for several days cooling overnight to the mid 80's.

Set the A/C to 78 to start at midnight for 24 hours... it was 88 inside.

Ran nearly non stop for 24 hours and 102 was outside in shade and 109 on patio.

78 was a relief... so about a 24 degree split temperature wise... small unit for 3150 square feet with cathedral ceilings throughout upstairs...

That said I went from a net 15 kWh surplus to a 54 kWh deficit for the 24 hour period.

Peak net usage never went above 4.5 kW with the highest use between 6 and 7 pm.

Maybe my trusty old Honda EM 5000 could meet my needs even wi A/C locked on?
