What is the entry model for a very quiet Generac?

The reason I ask is people are asking me as the HOA groups they live in have strict noise limits... such as when a power mower can be used... etc.

Unfortunately... some also live in Berkeley which is trying to get rid of residential natural gas...

When I run the Honda 2200 or my neighbor runs their Honda 3000 no one would even know except for the lights are on when the neighborhood is dark... my Honda 1000 is even quieter... one of the Docs has a Honda 7000i and has not issue so far in his HOA but would like to automate it and eliminate extension cords...
RG02224ANAX. this is a liquid cooled 22kw 1800 rpm model. its the smallest 1800 rpm unit and is pretty quiet for a unit putting out 22,000 watts of power. but your looking at about a $9,000 cost. thats why i didnt even put one on my own house.

but i live on 30 acres, so no one will complain about my 22kw air cooled. its quieter than a riding mower anyways.

problem with Berkeley is that there all tree huggers. My nephew was forced to return the f150 that my brother gave him (for protection in a crash) because he was yelled at by too many people at UCB when he took the truck to school. I say let them enjoy the blackouts. they can commune with nature and look at the stars without ground lighting. they should be in pig heaven. Im surprised that Berkley doesnt require that the grid be shut down every night after 9 pm.

I would have put stickers on the F150 proclaiming "Clean, Green Hydrogen" or Propane and stick a cylinder in the bed. Those people would be far too stupid to know, whats what.

No the city is discussing repercussion against PGE for the shut downs... the talk has been about taking over the utility but to find a way so as not to assume the liability...

One of my friends is the most senior lineman.. well over 50 years and in his 70's... he still enjoys going to work because he has knowledge no one else does because he was around back then... since his wife passed he said it gives him a reason to get up in the morning...

Berkeley, Marin, etc... I went to look a 1957 Thunderbird that was for sale... went around the block and parked it on the street with the hood up... two older women in an old bumper sticker Volvo stopped and rolled down the window and said I hope you are not planning of driving that car... I didn't quite catch it but they went on to say it belongs in a museum... OK... then said old cars shouldn't be allowed on the road... and how old man Ford was a Fascist... not exactly what I was expecting from strangers driving down the road but I should know better...

At work we are severely limited to maintenance running the generator and every year an inspector comes out to view the log book and hour meter... problem is the turbo Cummins is circa 1995...

Probably just a matter of time before legislation banning or restricting residential generators... such as a permit or decibel level... something like National Parks?

I was thinking one of the small trailer mounted diesel like MQ 10 or 12,000 Watt... then it is mobile...

Is there a decibel rating for the small water cooled unit?

I guess you get into the liquid cooled models, and I am sure you are up there in price. A friend has gas wells and runs a 1800 Generac Isuzu based generator. Probably not cheap. He was pissed though, when he found out he had to replace the timing belt periodically and that it is an interferance engine.

I love my Cummins/Onan Quiet Diesel Inverterer genertor. It's probably about the quietest machine you can buy. But the project is not finished and I have never used it for real. Ask me how much I like it, when the Permanent Magnets fly off the Rotor and destroy the stator.

I was not aware Cummins made an inverter generator.
What model is it?

90cummins

There are various. Firstly, Cummins bought Onan. Not a good thing (as usual) but it is what it is, as everyone says.

The one I have is the Cummins/Onan 7.5 Quiet Diesel (QD). Mostly for high end motor homes and industrial/government agencies like Mobile Police Command Posts. Lots of information on line and on Youtube. Oh yeah, mine has a Kubota 3 cyl.

My project to convert this thing to stationary use. The green thing is basically the generator. Had to add a transformer to make 120/240 as thes things "mostly" come as straight 62 amps 120 volt.

I guess you could put this thing in your basement (with a CO2 Detector) and with the exhaust being specially tuned, your neighbors would never hear it. It would be no louder than a vented furnace, and inside probably would be OK too.

Itching to try this thing for real, but it's become too cold to paint, and I don't like painting in my shop.

I really dont understand sound DB ratings. According to generac site the air cooled 22 is rated between 58 at exercise and 67 under load, but the liquid cooled unit shows 61 at exercise and 70 full load. But the fact is ive installed both and the liquid cooled is at least 1/2 as noisy as air cooled. The DB ratings dont seem to reflect any real differences. i just know what it sounds like. For instance its hard to carry on a conversation standing next to a closed 22kw unit running, but very east to talk next to the 22 liquid cooled unit running.

not sure what HOA would require.

there are diesel units that run super quiet, but i bet HOA would require a containment pit under it.

I'm just guessing that frequency figures into it. 100DB from a Piezo buzzer is different than 100db from a train horn. A set running at 3600 would have to be making much higher frequency sounds than one running at 1800.

Put it in a shed good exhaust piping add another muffler and you could even run the exhaust into a barrel with some water in it,
with the exhaust 6-8 inches in the water she would be nice and quiet. Treat it similar to shoot shovel and shutup, install use and go want?

getting off subject..i just heard a truck horn that sounded just like a train horn last weekend. some idiot pulled out in front of a pickup hauling a box trailer and the truck let it fly. i was quite a ways away and that was the loudest horn i ever heard. i bet the a hole that pulled in front of the truck had to change his shorts. i want a few of them...especially one for my tractor and the kawasaki mule....what fun

You can find them on E-Bay. I remember as kids we had this brass horn that my Dad rescued from scrap going into the Blast Furnace many years ago. We would have an air pig and fill it at the gas station, then head to the highway for some fun. Until the gas station guy gave us holly helll! Then, only used it at new years.
