Well tomorrow they deliver my 10KW genny that will replace the 6.5 that I accidentally blew by back feeding the hydro.
(I manually powered the wrong side of switch box that powered my septic pump and the genny did not like that, my bad)

In all probability I should be able to repair the older set and if so I have a taker lined up.
Good excuse to be able to add more creature comforts, LOL.

Wood stove was capable of maintaining minimal heat but a PIA plus I'm not young any more.

With 10kw I plan to simply use a few ceramic heaters as my emergency heat sources.
A $40/50 tender keeps my battery always fully charged for easy cold starting.

In my situation I have a wood shed just outside my basement where I house the genny and the thick concrete basement foundation totally isolates the genny noise from the house.

I'll add that in past I've experienced a 4 day power outage at -30 weather, no fun!
Also we are the end of a power grid so response is not the best.
Power lines also run thru the forest at places with minimal maintained clearing of the right of way.
Trees have that tenancy of blowing over.

Stop heating with wood and you will AGE much faster!

Like wood, electric heat will also make you warm twice.

Once when you turn it on and again when you get the bill.

I don't want to pretend that I love getting or making firewood, but it really is one of the few things my lady friend and I can do together, and this is valuable in itself.

Sure, we could hit the switch on a gas fireplace, sit down, and find something to disagree about. As it is, after making firewood, we are too tired to fight! lol

All great points.... I will discuss that with wife tonight...ha

Depending upon the time of year and length of outage; we consider the wood stove AS important or slightly MORE important than a generator.
As far as age goes....
...You're NEVER too old to stay in shape.

True. I kind of collect small Diesel Generators as a hobby. All small. 3.7 to 12.5 KW. Nothing that will (completely) heat my electrically heated house. So, yes, a wood stove is a must. Never forget the week long ice storm and outage. Multi millionaire neighbor shivered in their beds, all their heat pumps dead for some reason. He had a ford 5610 and PTO set, I don't remembe the details, but I was as warm as a bug in a rug with my primitive wood stove!

Just came across this. 3 years old Diesel generator startup HD - YouTube

Long winded, I am not interested in seeing a guy turn a wrench to put on new battery terminals.

BUT, what a nice set. No computers and some really nice little features you don't generally see. 12 volt shut off switch, and adjustable regulator, just for instance.

It is amazing how much stuff you can blow out a genset exhaust when it has t been run in a long time... Or run excessively without load.

Coated many cars, pedestrians, cyclists and alleyways in carbon or watery, rusty carbon or bird and/ or nests over the years. The best one though was a smouldering crow that was launched a hundred feet in the air in front of a tour group at a large site.

It’s a shame we never had camera phones back then.

Battery supply for switchgear is typically 125VDC.

On the topic of old resurrected iron, mine is one I致e been meaning to upgrade for about 15 years now and followed me through three moves and still a temporary installation. BUT... a little maintenance is required if you want to avoid frustration. Points, plugs and a new fuel pump today.

This one has well over 16k hours on it by the way.
