Your last generator Maintenance Run

No I am not sure. All I know is that I shut the generator off, toggled the (70 amp) internal generator breaker, and then switched the generator back to é„*uto? whereupon it started again (since the power from the power company was still off). But this time it did send power into the building. So I don稚 really know if it was just the breaker that had tripped or if the act of shutting off and then restarting the generator somehow å��ixed an automatic transfer switch problem.

Loose connections, always worth checking (Safety First).

If they are not too spendy, I'd probably pick up a spare Transfer Switch, just to keep Murph appeased.....

thanks Lou. I get a green light and an orange light, likely the orange being the battery unhappiness.
did read the online manual, nothing about the watch battery in there. I need to look for the tab or whatever holds it in.

what was more important was reading this below, for the first time, where I find I have a fuel filter/sediment trap I'm supposed to be draining and never have.
Anyone else have experience with this?

Thats not a real warning. Its a built in Test reminder. Happens either every 6 months or once a year depending on service its asking.. While engine is off and the auto button is on, press the enter button. It will ask if you checked battery. Press enter again. As for the sediment trap, over the years I’ve serviced these units, I have never seen anything in one. But our climate isn’t very hot. I have been told that climates with wild temp swings are harder on this. its vague in manual, but its on page 38, last line.

It’a a Kohler 17RES with a Kohler transfer switch mounted indoors.

BTW, it was bought new and installed in 2010.

I’m not familiar with kohler systems. But I have seen a few Generacs that fail to transfer due to glitch in transfer signal. Ive seen them transfer on their own after a restart. Barring a wiring error, I personally never figured out what caused it.

And maybe I never will either. Should probably call Kohler in case it is a known problem with an available fix.
