DoD.

Depth of Discharge...... even traditional Deep Cycle batteries don't like being repeatedly pounded down too low.

That's one thing I still like about fuel for power.... the last gallon works exactly the same as the first gallon out of the tank .

When you have been out on a deserted lake, on a windy day with a twelve tinner, Minn kota motor and recreational battery with a bad cell, accompanied by a woman that hates you, you never look at battery powered stuff the same way again. It's why, I would like to keep the inverter but have some slow running diesel generator, maybe 1200RPM, 1500 watts or so, running just to keep stuff cold and the lights working for nighttime use, when I would otherwise normally shut off any generator I had running.

Relative is building now in final plan approval stage and going off grid... county requires in place generator to sign off permit when done...

PGE is nearby but they are looking at 35 to 40k for poles and such... only utility they will have is municipal water as there is a must hook up condition for water and prohibition on new wells...

They have an ideal 5 acre site for solar down near Paso Robles CA...

Should be interesting project.

I do buy sine wave APC UPS boxes for the Hospital... they cost a lot more but some of the expensive medical equipment require it to bridge and condition power for the 6 seconds from when power goes out to when the big Gensets transfer...

Nice on the solar option. Not sure on that area's size (boundaries)..... looks like some big ranches east of there.... I and others joke about all the rules in Cali, but if they are near the airport, might want to stay away from groundwater anyway, esp. if it's an old airport....

Kind of like IBM in the old days..... nobody got fired for picking APC !

They are pretty excited and father in law is a builder... he is 75 and has told them for 15 years to get on ball... time is running out!

One thing that they are dealing with is costs here across the board are50 to 100% higher than 10 years ago when they first got the land... they decided to save and wait... but with all the California fires both labor and materials have never been higher...

Paso does get real hot in the summer... it was 112 when I was there Father's day the year before last... so money on insulation and efficiency with solar is key... no shade trees but great views...

My friends are Zantrax dealers. A California Company. They had been bought by Schneider and now apparently sold again. Good products including for Solar, but they have hedged their bet with Sanwax (sp?), a cheaper product. I do use a lot of APC stuff for local UPSes.

As far as the lake goes. I can't swim and there isn't a single place on that lake that you can get out, on account of a very soft bottom. All we had were a couple of canoe paddles.

Thinking of the houses I've seen in Phoenix..... single story, tile roof..... classic solar (heat) design obviously useful too....

At those temps, I'd be tempted to go underground...... not that that's new.....

Hey ur - maybe you can finally design that additional muffler setup for that donated automatic gen you have ?

My old genset is configured for natural gas... it can be adapted to propane.

Very loud single cylinder but very dependable.

I think they are going all electric but can ask if propane is in their plans... it would seem better to have options?

At the cabin we are all propane...

Been there done that... also with a strong head wind heading back. 12v power and oars (she didn't offer) and I still couldn't get back soon enough!
