Still out d ?
Even some crude panels (plywood sheets) can knock the db's down a bit....
Rgds, D.
sixteen hours total, put a small amount of oil in just to top it off
My gen is plumbed right into the panel so I have to load manage carefully.
For giggles....I threw the breaker for the electric hot water heater on and boy what a noise honked out of the gen.
Promptly turned it off, never designed for that kind of load. (though gen is 46 amps at 240...probably what a water heater draws?)
I never expected hot water out of this set up.
about four years ago I got a strange disease called Meniere's Disease which affects one's hearing.
In my case badly, 90 percent hearing loss in left ear, and what does come in comes in hugely distorted
and seemingly amplified ten times. Small noises like dishes clashing are like explosions in my ear. Very strange.
4 ENTs have failed to help, they hear Meniere's and cringe, clearly they don't have a cure for this.
What this does to me is make my ears very sensitive, overly sensitive to certain noise frequencies.
Gen seems to make two noises. One an exhaust noise and one a general motor din. It's the latter that seems to bother my ears.
when I drive long trips, sometimes even short ones, the noise of the road hiss/hum is a bad frequency for me. I have to wear noise cancelling headphones
and since the problem noise is steady state, not varying, those headphones work wonderfully.
I put one of my sets on last night for a little relief. Gen noise is steady state, perfect for noise cancelling headphones.
A big Honda inverter gen sounds mighty nice right now.
that's a want. My needs are those two sheets of plywood to deflect the noise away from two windows in the area of the gen.
It sits in the middle of a "V", two intersecting walls, so naturally aims noise at woods. But much of that noise is 360 degree noise so I need something
between the gen and the house.
we have had long and extensive discussions here over the years about soundproofing. We all seem to be interested in it.
There must be a hundred guys showing off their gen on youtube.
outside of my little home is nicely landscaped and gardened. So this can't look like a homeless shelter...and it can't be too heavy.
I did notice a little flickering in certain lights while power was on, likely LEDs. ?? Voltage was 113-118 whole time, I watched it on my wall monitor here in office.
Voltage drops every time amp draw increases. probably indicative of crappy wiring in this old house, though I know some drop is to be expected.
remember this is the gen with the surprisingly large/poor THD rating. My nice pc runs through a large APC UPS with AVR, pc acted like nothing was different.
so that sure gave the gen a good workout. Oil looked perfectly clean, any moisture in there likely got baked out of there running that long.
But If I get a warmer sunny day, it only holds a quart or so, just suck it out and put new 10/30 full syn in it. With my gratitude for faithful service.
