You Know You Are Old When

Well, I just canceled SiriusXM on my wifes Jeep as well as the Uconnect on line with no issues, then added the Equinox to our plan. Got my confirmation of the cancelations and the switch in less then 20 minutes as emails.
Wasn't aware you could do that. Might be a less-hassle way to do it.

When I bought my truck, I'd get an announcement every time I started it telling me that Onstar was in demo mode. Got old fast. Since I'd never activated it, I didn't have an account so I had to use the Onstar to have them turn it off. Got quite a sales pitch from the representative to activate my free trial. No thanks, just turn off demo mode. They did.
Would've just pulled the fuse, but there was something else (rear defrost maybe?) that was on the same circuit.

Yes on line was much easier, I had called and was on hold and then got an operator I couldn't hear or understand, and who hung up on me. While on the phone I was looking on line then once I found it , it was easy. We have 8 years of On Star basic with the car, I did have to push the On Star button and talk to a sales rep, but it went fairly quickly after she spelled out all the optional packages and I told her all we wanted was the basic and if we changed our minds I'd call.

Four cars have Bluetooth so I can stream free music of any kind using phone, but rarely do we ever listen to anything and drive. I want 100% attention to driving.

There might have been some government action and possibly fines with companies that made cancellation of subscriptions excessively difficult. I remember reading something but not sure of companies involved.

When I cancelled six? years ago it took me hours on the phone and certified mail before I finally cancelled the credit card.

I would love to have Sirius but not going through that again. I would buy a one year subscription but they only want auto renewal and I'm not doing that.

Auto Renewal is a trap…

I know folks that canceled their card number and got new cards and still had charges follow.

Now it’s bank account access many companies want and not going to happen.

After I dropped Sirius they sent me an online questionnaire of what it would take for me to come back, which I filled out. I only remember 2 of the questions now.
1)Would you be more apt to come back if we did away with autopay?
Yes
2) Can we contact you again?
No.

They paid no attention to my second answer, and from things said in this discussion it doesn't appear that they listened to #1 either.
Go figure.

I often wonder how many people are paying for things they have forgotten about because of auto pay. Granted they should pay more attention to their statements yet when people pay for everything using plastic it could be hard to pick up.

That's right. No bank account access because it's nearly certain it will be abused.

If you believe the articles on how to trim the fat out of your budget, quite a few. As you said, you'd think they'd actually look at the charges on their CC bill each month, but apparently many don't.

I had a card scammed a few years ago while going to visit my parents. I picked up on it the next morning when I noticed a $90.00 charge for a gift card to Macy's... I've never been to the store in my life. I contacted the bank and they got it reversed, but I've always wondered how many times the thieves would have used it otherwise.
That charge was on Macy's as they didn't get the 3 digit code.

Funny thing, my card must have been skimmed. while getting gas in Manchester Maine as it was the only place I had used it. There are 3 places to get gas in that town and I used to fill up on my way to or from my parent's house. I've had card problems of some type in all 3 stations, and now drive right through town without stopping.

My solution is CASH.
I always pay cash except for the largest of purchases.
Then it is usually at a large retailer/supplier that is least likely to be pulling a scam.
It always boggles my mind that people can't carry a few bucks to cover a coffee or pack of gum.
Give big brother every op to track you and every small time business to pull a quick on on you.
