I started shaving in the mid 60s, and even then I mostly associated that with old men or barbershops. Even my father used regular aerosol shaving cream.

Prices always skyrocket like this on anything that's been discontinued, or is experiencing an interruption in supply.

I guess I'm not old enough to remember it ever costing 25 cents, but since a single bar lasts a year and a half of daily shaving or closer to 3 years with my present "every other day" schedule... I never worried too much about the cost. Here's the brand I've been using the last five or six years, under $15:
