You Know You Are Old When

You know, our grandparents said that about us. Just ask Archie and Edith. :D

I've mentioned it before, but my favorite podcast of all time was Dan Carlin's Hardcore History. It's waned a bit, but one of the better episodes from a few years back was called, "Old School Toughness". The basic premise is him thinking and talking through the scenario of how any generation might hold up in a war against their grandparents, with the initial thought being that the younger generation would probably have their asses handed to them. Of course, he works through the problem in bloody detail, the way only Dan Carlin can, with great historical reference to the Greatest Generation, etc.
I don't have the patience to sit thru a podcast, could you give a synopsis of it?
I told her that in my case, the only hair style changes I can make make are on my face because I have almost nothing on the head to work with.

Swear to God, hair grows quicker on my face, ears and eyebrows than it does on my head.
Still have most of my hair at 73, though it's getting a bit thinner. Never could grow a decent beard. Tried back in my 20s, but it was scraggly and itched so off it came.

I don't wanna say I'm old but I tell people that you
can't do anything about growing old but you can eat
right and poke fun at it - when I was 40 they told me
that I had spurs - I don't have a horse When I was
80 they told me I had shingles - I don't do roofs either :ROFLMAO:

Last week a musem made me an offer but I had to
refuse them they wanted to stuff me

That's the odd thing, my dad actually had a good head of hair even when he passed at 90. The ONLY time he ever had hair on his face is when he came back from Laos while in the Air Force wearing a mustache, and I can still remember my mom telling him to take it off now, which he did LOL

Me? It always seemed my beard always grew quicker than the hair on my head. Wife is so used to me with it, that I guess I'm lucky she prefers me that way because the few times I shaved, she always ask "why did you do that?"

in my mid 40's when I played Santa, I had to use white coloring in my beard to play the part. 15 years or so later, no coloring needed.

Ever since the pandemic I have been cutting my own hair. I have to say it doesn't look bad under my cap.
My wife has cut her own short hairstyle for 50 years. Has a Wahl home clipper set with different guards and always looks like she went to a salon. People compliment her. There have been times when she had to use the dog clippers and it came out just as nice. Beats me.
She's been cutting my hair for 30 years and it comes out close enough for me. If there's any tension that day I've learned to wait.

I would highly suggest getting a set of Wahl clippers and cutting your own hair or having your wife do it. It comes out just fine and we have saved a barrel of $$ over the years. Money saved is money earned and money spent on a barber is after-tax money so it's really maybe 25%-30% more than you think. Plus gas, time and vehicle cost.

The pandemic woke a lot of people up to many incidental costs that really don't need to be and cutting back was easier than I thought. That's the law of unintended consequences.
