Mowing YM2202, Engage PTO, let out clutch, stops the engine.

Yanmar 2202.
Engage PTO, let out the clutch and the engine bogs down and stops. It's like the gear box is frozen. The PTO will not turn. You can let the tractor move forward and grind gears trying to engage the PTO but it does not engage. Stop the tractor, engage the PTO, let out the clutch and the tractor bogs down and the PTO does not turn. I have a 4ft. woods finish mower attached at present.

Sounds like you may have to pull the pto assembly to trouble shoot. Could be in shifter area. Looks like the shifter block is plastic. PTO SHIFTER BLOCK PLASTIC_: Yanmar Tractor Parts

Is the mower hooked up to the pto? Do the symptoms occur when there is no mower attached?

I agree. Disconnect and check and see if the Drive shaft to the mower will turn. I'm guessing it won't.
