So I got my power steering and a loader when I bought my 2000bd with a vtek vn1 loader. However, I believe that the power steering ram (1-1/4") is way overkill. When spinning the wheel, I have to wait for the pump to "catch up" with the turn I'm making. Is this normal? When looking at the size (diameter mainly) of the ram for PS vs. bucket control (1"x2), is it possible to downsize the PS ram to be more responsive but still do its duty? In hindsight, I'd probably wish I'd bought a manual steering and then do the hydro assist.?. Maybe I dunno. Its annoying to the point of maybe I need a bigger tractor but I'd rather buy a bigger hydro pump (if possible) or a smaller PS ram (if possible) to cure my ailes. Any help is always most appreciated.

No Sir, Where a typical steering manual gearbox would be.....I have a hydro diverter. I'll try and take a pic. My phone cam isnt so good in dark. ps diverter.jpg

maybe not a diverter but some contraption that sends fluid in or out to the ram based on steering wheel spin. Not sure where to make the adjustment you recommend looking for.

Your power steering is a conversion by someone, possibly during Vietnam refurb, and could consist of almost anything partswise.

Yep, that would look to be a one of a kind that someone did. The diverter valve should be between the pump discharge and power steering unit. Not saying you have one, but if you do, that is where it would be.

Well that's disappointing. I'll look for the diverter. Hopefully I got one and it will be a quick fix. Otherwise, I might look into trying to find a smaller ram. If I get into that, I'll let yall know how it goes. Thanks for taking a look though.

perhaps you can add a restriction fitting in the flow somehow. When I added my grapple to my tractor. The grapple came with fittings that I could install that would restrict the flow of hyd fluid to the grapple in case it operated too fast. You might find these fittings at a hyd supply You may be able to order them here...Surplus Center.
Would be cheaper than a new hyd cylinder

It looks like a forklift type retrofit to your tractor.
