Finally found the time to put on the 1972 Datsun 510 voltage regulator. Same plug and bolted right up to the frame. WORKS GREAT!!! Checked with a meter and it puts out 14.5v at the battery. Found a new one for $10.00 bucks including shipping (ebay). The old regulator was open to the elements and had a lot of dust... in there. Wonder if it can be cleaned and made workable. It was reading about 17-18v and I didn't want to damage the new battery.

Did you try backing off the adjustment screw?

My local parts store told me that the regulator from my 2210D was the same as an old datsun. New solid state one was less than $20. works great!
