I have a ym2000 with a starter problem. It will turn the engine about one or two revolutions, and then stop as if it had a dead battery .I took the starter off cleaned it put new brushing in it , I jump it at the battery ,also at the starter all connections and cables or good . After doing all this I still have the same problem. could it be the armature in the starter. THANKS for any information. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It could be anything at this point. Did you try running the starter when you had it off the tractor? You can test the armature with a VOM by checking each segment of the commutator for continuity with the adjacent one.

Thanks for the info. I took the starter off of the tractor it worked ok. also work ok on the tractor when combustion is open ,when you close it and the starter is under a load the problem is still there, it may be a short as it warm up. So I guess it;s off to the starter shop I go [ THANKS AGAIN]

How cold is it there? What weight engine oil are you running? These engines are hard to turn when cold. You have to use thin oil for the cooler months. Also, warming the engine up first with block heater etc.. may make the diff....

Might even be worn out bushing clearances that bind up under load.

I've been having the same trouble with my YM2000. At first I thought it was just a tired battery, but now I know that it is high resistance in the positive cable. The battery end of the cable is pretty much shot and it looks like there is internal corrosion traveling up the cable. If I jump it right at the starter there is no problem. If I try to jump it at the battery it will spin about 2 times until the compression builds. Check both of your battery cables real good. E.M.

Are you sure the battery has a full charge? It must have a minimum of 12.6 volts for cranking, and have you jumpered directly to the installed starter from the fully charged battery?

good morning,
hope you are using the decompression lever...... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif, its under the dash on the left side as you are setting on the tractor......pull out about half an inch and turn to the left....hit the starter......should turn right over....... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
BTW welcome to TBN......

I took the starter to the shop and they said it had a short in the solenoid switch. MR.CFOXMD you may be right on the diagnosis, I sure hope so ,but I won;t know for a day or two;had to order the S-switch [ Thanks to all]
