yanmar 1110d ,fx28d
Does anyone know where I can get a ignition key for a yanmar 2000, it's a 2 cyl and I just got it but I only have 1 key. I have no doubt that I will loose it within a month only because I don't have a backup.
thanks for the help

Hoye tractor stocks them (Ad at the top of this thread) and other dealers have them too.

A good locksmith (not box stores) can match one up as well.

Go to John Deere, and tell them you want a key for a John Deere 850, don't tell them it is for a Yanmar, and see if it isn't the same key. It was for mine. If I remember right it was around $5.00 for two keys, for that is the way they sell them.

Sorry your correct...3 cylinder only.

I believe Dick's right on about the JD match. I forgot it's been so long since I had to buy any.

Hey Mark if you do go to John Deere DONT say Yanmar, I did and was told they never seen a key like the one I have, its for a 2610, so got on Ebay and found one just like it for a John Deere, I guess they have enough business. anyway just my input, good luck..Robert

runningbird,

The ym2000 is reported to be the equivalent of the ym240.
The ym240 was made for the usa market.
Have you considered looking for a ym240 key to check to see if you can match it with your ym2000 key ?

Just a suggestion.

Or, you could just call Hoye tractor and have one tomorrow!

yes, this should work. these keys are interchangeable. the key which works in my 169d (made for US) also works in my 1601d (made for japan, somehow arrived in MA). I think many of the keys are interchangeable if they belong to the same cylinder family. Not sure this helps, but is some related info.. -art

Ebay is your friend. This guy continually lists generic Yanmar keys; under $5 delivered.

Yanmar key on ebay

That's a completed listing but I'm sure you can ask him to list one for you.

I buy most stuff from Hoye including a whole new ignition switch recently, but when I first started out the first thing I did was get a second key off ebay.

That completed ebay listing is mine. I received the key Monday and it works great.

my ym2020 key also works for my ym1500 and the ym1500 key is a JD 850 key. I think they are all the same. Find one that does not interchange and post that one.

Don't wake them up, I already told them about the JD 850 key, like 2 for $5 or $6, but they want to go to Ebay or a dealer and pay that much for one. Let them sleep on and pay it, why should we care.

Sorry Dick, but in my case, I had to weigh the inflated ebay cost over the benefits of spending the time and fuel to drive 60 miles and deal with people who didn't want my money unless I lied to them. What can I say, the cost of Green makes me see Red.

In my case, I only had to drive 20 miles. And I didn't lie to them, or I wouldn't have got it. I don't lie or steal or cheat. But anyway, I just told them I wanted a key for their model 850, and bought it, they didn't ask me what it was for.

I don't cheat, steal or lie either, but if you need something from my local Deere dealer for a Yanmar, you will have to, like I said the told me that they had never seen a key like I had, I wish it wasn't that way, but with Hoye and LMTC and others on here I don't have to deal with them. anyway just my thoughts.... Runningbird,

Recently had clutch replaced on my 1500 at Borders Turf and Tire in Phoenix and asked them to put in a new iginition switch as the only key I had was bent and I hadn't been able to find anyone who had a comparable blank or replacement. One of their contacts who just happens to be a locksmith came by and suggested he simply make duplicates of the key from a Master Lock blank. $3.00 and done.
