YM2000 Oil Filler? RANDYC64 8/8/01 12:44 pm
I am a new owner of a YM2000 with 241 hrs.Where do I add engine
oil,and what grade/visc.?What type hyd. oil?Where can I get a manual?

Randy 241 hrs is hardly used at all just broken in. The oil fill is a
plastic cap on top of the valve cover. It may even have an oil symbol
on it. You want an oil rated for diesel service. You could use 30
weight but I think many of us are using multi-weight. I am using the
oil John Deere recomends for use in its compacts. It is 15W40. I have
heard that JD fluids are made by Shell. Shell rotella oil and
antifreeze are a good choice too. The Hy/tran fluid to use is one
compatible with John Deere 303. I use the John Deere stuff. I think
it is called Hyguard. If you have the time there is a lot of useful

My valve cover doesn't have a plastic plug in it.
It does nave 2 covers on top of it,each having 2 bolts holding them
down.They are sort of oval-shaped and are toward each end of the
valve cover.

Fill & dipstick are on left side in front of starter.

My starter is on the left side(as you sit in the seat),but my
dipstick is on the right.I've looked all over the engine,but i still
can't find a oil filler.

That off side dipstick must be some sort of clue. I've not seen all
of the Yanmars by any means, but I've never seen one that didn't have
an oil filler plug in the valve cover. Does anyone else have the same
valve cover on their 2000? The valve cover also has the small oval
covers that you described in your message last week. I believe those
are for adjusting the compression release.

I have a YM177 that does not have an oil filler in the valve cover. I
confess I have not looked for one either, the oil had just been
changed when I received the tractor. I'll look for an oil filler and
post it's location here.

i'm all most certain no filler on valve cover
