I have a 1720D that is similar in size and I don't find it too bothersome to get on and off of. It is a little tight with the front end loader controls but manageable for my 6'1" 230 lb frame.

Personally, I think the mower will be a bit too large. The weight alone will make the front extremely light.

The mower has four wheels, so most of the time the weight is supported by the mower itself. Hopefully to mower is only up before I start cutting and after I finish. john

I think your pushing it a little past the limit with a 72" finish mower on a 1720 let alone a 1610.
I would would jump over to the 2001 or a 2010 ect..

I have a 1700 and I like this little tractor. I am 6' tall and tip the scales at 250 lbs (size 13 shoe) and I do not find it hard to get on or off or operate the tractor. I think you would have plenty of room unless you are bigger than I am.

As far as the 6' finish mower; I would not recommend. I have a 5' and mowing 4 - 4.5 acres; it is the right size. If I get into some of the taller stuff; it will put a load on it with the 5' at 2000 RPM +/-.

Weight is another factor as well. I made a weight to go on the front of mine that is about 100 lbs and I have filled the rear tires with antifreeze and water. It plants the front with the 5' all the way up and "bites" better when using the 5' blade. I used to do too many "wheelies" before I added the weight. I just fear that you would be cussing up a storm if you got the 1700 and tried to use your 6' finish. If you plan on keeping the 6' finish; you might want to "up size". I think Ernie has already said a 2000 or 2010. I picked up the 5' practicly new finish mower for $400 (right place at the right time, but had to make repairs before use).

The 1700 does not have a water pump, but the 2000 does. The 1700 uses a thermosyphon system. I got rid of the idiot lights and went to gauges. The highest I have seen mine at was 210 - 215. You can however take the pump from a 2000 and mount to the 1700. I have considered doing this. The angle of the tractor will effect the running temp. When mowing on flat level ground; it will run around 190. When mowing on hills (headed up, down, tilted right or left and sometimes under load) is usually when I see the temp get to the 210 - 215. I have a 1602D, I'm 5'10" and have a little trouble climbing on and off, but once there I'm comfortable. As to the power, it'll depend on conditions, but 72" might be stretching it a bit.
If you're mowing flat ground, not too tall and not in too much of a hurry, no problems. But since the 2000 is phsyically a bigger tractor, will you have any issues with tight spaces? If everything is wide open, maybe a bigger one would be better.
