YM 3000 Oil light coming on

It just started today. Would come on when rpm's were below 1000, so I kept rpm's above that. After about an hour had to keep rpm's above 1500 for it to stay off so decided I'd better park it. What would be the best thing to check first ?? I'm thinking replacing the oil pressure sending switch would be a good place to start ? It would at least be a cheap place to start. Anybody got any suggestions?

Stupid question I guess, but is oil and filter in good shape? I think I might try and hook up a gage to know exactly what is going on. I am afraid it may be more than the sensor. The threads where the sensor screws in are 1/8" BPT. One thread per inch different than NPT. Yanmar Tractor Parts OIL PRESSURE GAUGE ADAPTER - NPT TO "YANMAR" THREADS

Oil and filter have about 5 hours on them. I'm a little dumb on oil pressure gauges. Would just any old gauge from the auto parts store work as long as I got the adapter ?

Yep. In fact I already had a plumber's 100 psi water test gauge and the right adapters so I installed that temporarily to monitor pressure. This confirmed the engine was ok.

The replacement sender I bought was a generic Toyota/Honda/Subaru sender from Autozone; they have the same thread. Under $10.

Thanks for the help CA. I just ordered the tester from harbor freight. Will see if the adapters with their kit will work, if not will order Hoye's adapter. Here's hoping it's just a bad sensor and not something more serious.

Should work. I tried a simpler HF kit (fewer adapters) and found the hose threads matched the Yanmar block without adapters.

(-: Oil pressure is good (see 50 + PSI reading on dandy new pressure gauge). Must be the sender. Thanks for the help. On an unrelated topic, anybody know where I could find a cap/cover for the center of my steering wheel--before the nut rusts to the shaft?

This fits the same steering wheel shown unter the 3000. Yanmar Tractor Parts STEERING WHEEL CENTER CAP - 49.30 MM_
