Tractor
Still searching
Well, decision time is almost here. WOW, this is really exciting. I think you guys are right, the search is almost as exciting as the purchase. :) :)
After spending many enjoyable hours on this forum, I think I'll be making a decision on a tractor in the near future.
I'd like to thank all of you who have given me an education on the Yanmar Tractors. The dealers I've spoken to on this forum have been very helpful, even after telling them I'd be buying in my home state of Florida, thanks guys.
Before making the final decision on my first tractor purchase ever, I'd love to hear from those of you who have had experience with the YM 2010, or have just heard stories about that model, GOOD OR BAD. I personally like it for its 23.5hp +-, the 3 cyl., and powershift and I think it's a 80 or 81 model.
Do you feel I'd be better off with another model? I'll be mowing 6-8 acres, a little grading in sugar sand, moving some clay and sand, some post hole digging, dragging a couple of pastures, just general farm work. My property is slightly sloped down to a lake, but pretty firm.

Thanks again,
Jim

Well, I have been told that a 2010 is almost identical to a US model 226, of which I have 2. It is the most usefull thing I have ever bought, It just about perfect in power, size, weight and maneuverability, I don't think I have ever asked it to do something it couldn't do within reason as far as traction and power go. If you get the partsmanual for a 2010,, it would be interesting to see how close it is to a 226. Spare parts are positively no problem for the US Yanmars. I know that the drivetrain and front axle are the same as on a 226, if you ever decide to switch to Turf tires or even Ag's drop me an E-mail I've already done the swith and know what you need.( in case of FWD, tire sizes etc.) I also have a spare set of rear wheels for AGs in case you are interested.
Let us know what you decide on that 2010
Peter

Peter,

Thanks for the reply. With what you've said about the 2010 being almost identical to your 226, I think I'm heading in the right direction. When I do purchase one, I'm hoping to be able to get a parts manual with it. I'll let you know. As for the tires and wheels, I'll have to see what comes with the one I purchase. Haven't found it yet, but I'm sure I'll be able to get one soon.

Thanks,
Jim

JIm:

Got your message, but somehow deleted it. I haven't had a lot of luck using the computer lately. However, I have really had good luck with my 2010D. It is a great little tractor, having all sorts of power and versatility. I had a smaller tractor before, but it did not have a loader and was 2 wheel drive. For the Wyoming winters and general work in the terrain around here, I wouldn't be without the added flexibility 4wd gives. The tractor is clearly a quality machine. I have experienced one problem, that being the voltage regulator going out, but with a few posts on the forum, not only was I able to diagnose the problem, but I ordered the correct part from one of the dealers on the forum and had it back in tip top shape right away. Take my advice and give the tractor a good once over before you buy, but don't be afraid of it doing the job for you! It will please you for years to come, and you will love the power-shift, too!

Nuvz,

Thanks for the info. I've gotten a few private e-mails from club members and they all had good things to say about the YM2010. The reason I'm leaning toward the YM2010 is the little extra hp and the powershift. I was looking at a couple with 17 - 19 hp, with gear drive, but I feel I'd rather have more power than not enough.
One of my concerns is, how stable is this tractor, since about 4 acres of my farm is slightly sloped, I'd say about 20 -30 degrees. I'll probably get some roll bars for it soon after my purchase.
Hey Nuvz, at least I don't have to worry about the Wyoming SNOW here in Florida. BRRRRRRRRRRRR. You sure live in a beautiful state. We visited Jacksonhole a few years ago, didn't want to come back home, until the COLD hit :)

Since you are using your tractor on sloped ground, you may want to look into turning the wheels out. That will make the stance a bit wider and help stabilize the tractor. Thanks for the complement on Wyoming. Florida is one of three states I have not yet been to. I do have a question, though.... Just how do you make a gator dance?

Nuvz, Thanks for the tip on turning the wheels out.
As for your question on making a gator dance------I don't have an answer :( but we thought it was a catchy farm name, living on a lake occupied by gators. :) I'll have to give that question some more thought though. :)

I figure if we had Gators up here, and they wanted to dance......Who am I to stop them???/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Jim, I just checked out your website.....very impressive. Looks like you might want to join the group looking for a 3ph sicklebar mower to mow your lakefront. If the tractor you get has "rice" or "ag" tires you will want to switch them side to side when you invert to maintain the tread direction, and only do rear tires if you should get 4wd.

Inspector 507, you've got that right. Hey, let me tell ya, I was out fishing in our lake one day and had a gator try to get in my 12' Jonboat after the live shiner on my hook. That's no lie :)
