I am working on a YM 180. Can anyone tell me how much transmission fluid it takes?

I can tell you a ym155 holds 2.5 gal. I can tell you a ym226 holds 14.7 qts and a ym226d holds 15.3 qts. Guess the ym180 is somewhere in between?

Add till it reads full on the dipstick, then start and recheck the line...

its a smaller size to a 1500 and they hold about 15 litres so i would say about 12 litres for a 180.

I have 3 gallons in it now and it isn't all the way up to the mark. Do you screw the dip stick in to take the measurement?. My main tractor is a 186d. I got this 180 for parts but it looked too good so I am trying to get it running. There are enough differences that the 186 manuals aren't very useful.

After puzzling over several Yanmar manuals I concluded what they meant was don't screw in a threaded dipstick, but do push in one that slides into a rubber grommet.

I don't think there are many points where the difference has any significance.

I know on my tractors, the trans fluid is for the rear diff and the trans, so it takes quite a bit.

None of my tractors have a dip stick, they all use a weep hole, so it takes the guess work right out of it.

I agree with California, I have 3 different manuals (not the 186d) and all of them say check without screwing in.

I have started marking tractors with the amounts of fluids they take when I can figure out what it is supposed to be. It is sort of a pain to use trial and error and end up having to drain a little off when I miss. Fluids are getting expensive. I wish all vehicles came with fluids and air pressure marked on them.

I picked up a service manual for the 180 today. For future reference the 180/180D takes 13 liters or 13.7 quarts.
