I am considering a pole-barn type building for my next project...upto this point I have only built regular wood frame construction, but the cost and simplicity of a pole barn is begginning to appeal to me...

My question however, most pole barn designs I have seen call for directly burying the poles to the frost line, 4feet in my area, (using PT 4x4 I assume).

I'd rather put in cement supports for the posts (footer plus a tube of cement) and then set the posts ontop and attach with a deck-like bracket...

Why wouldn't I want to do this? Just to save the cost and labor of the footers? Seems like using cement posts/footers would extend the life of the building and wouldn't add a whole lot to the cost...opinions?
