There's the problem: this entire EV thing is driven by politics. Consumers have not demonstrated their preference for EVs in large numbers, but it's looking more and more as though they will be forced to switch either by outright prohibition of gas and diesel power, unrealistic fuel efficiency mandates, or politically triggered increases in fuel prices.
Electric propulsion of vehicles was not invented yesterday. There are reasons why petroleum has been dominant for so long. It remains the only sensible choice for serious users. An electric tractor might seem cool if you're a hobbyist, but not if you're depending on it to pull a 20-foot chisel plow all day so you can make a living. And can you imagine what kind of batteries and charging apparatus would be needed for a plugin locomotive?
EVs are not ready for prime time and might not ever be. The only way to find out is to make them compete in an unfettered market. But Americans seem content to let the dumbest people on earth dictate our choices, limit our mobility, and plunge the country into poverty. Heaven help us.
Everyone should view the video "Who killed the electric car?" and then think for yourself about who is manipulating fuels and transportation in America. Right to repair concerns and shrinking agriculture water rights...well sure hope we can still buy mules somewhere to help with the farming.

Where are you getting your "facts"? The US has a serious shortage of power plans and distribution. Solar plants cost less than a quarter to build of what a natural gas plant costs.
“Facts”? lol
Facts are in short supply these days because as we all know theres “spin” behind “facts”.

”cost to build” is only one piece of the puzzle. Then there’s some “facts” you left out. Sun doesn’t always shine. What if it’s cloudy for 25 out of 30 days? Uh oh! Whoopsie daisies! How about maintenance? How about life expectancy of chinese solar panels? How about lithium mining and the cost to the environment to mine lithium or cobalt or other precious metals/minerals?

And what about all the plants that have been idled? Investing back in them to re-open?

My uncle was the president of Excelon energy. Back in the 70’s when nuclear was the rage, he used to enthusiastically tell us that nuclear was the future and it would result in much lower energy costs. Wow, what a flop that was. You sound like the same thing. Lots of amazing promises, yet nothing delivered.
Look at whats going on in Europe. They are going back to fossil fuels

I learned a lot the history of EVs from that movie.

The story below updates EV current events.

EVs are not the real threat to fossil fuel dictators.

Sounds like charging the Lighting was a hassle for that them.

Why does the government offer different tax credits on different new EVs? The max seems to be $7500… but on a Tesla they will not give you anything near that. On a new Hyundai EV they will however. Anyone know why?

I large percentage of EV owners and hybrid owners switch back to ICE powered vehicles....it seems to be largely dependent on the home charging situation. Without Level 2 charging at home that number jumps to over half switching back to ICE powered vehicle. Level 2 home charging should get better moving forward so those number could change.

Last I saw that large percentage EV to ICE was around 20%? 50% of that 20% was due to charging concerns.

Maybe new metrics now.

200,000 USA EV sales limits per manufacturer. GM and Tesla are out the rebate qualification window. Nissan is closing in on 200K but can still be a sub $20K option for some.

UK just killed EV rebates I read. Someone in Senate or House just verbalized the same for the USA like today.

I had prefer rebate funds go to highway funding. I think EV pricing may be inflated to capture some of rebate funds by the manufacturer.

around here we have apartment dwellers in the Sacramento area that commute to the SF area. That's 80-90 miles one way. 150-200 miles is certainly in the range of most EV's, but charging them at night at the apartment complex ...

its California, lots of things don't make sense, but that's the way it is.

I’m 108 miles 1-way, so I get it.
Don’t want to live or raise family in the city, unfortunately that’s where work is.

Plenty of California EV commuters don’t have access to ‘at home’ charging. Percentage of at EV owners with at home charging is actually decreasing as more people buy EVs and the increase in public charging stations.

I wouldn't own an EV today if I couldn't charge in my driveway.

Currently I know no EV owners or a area sellers of EVs. I see a Tesla from time to time.

Some people that I run into think I'm lying when I say my car does not have a gas tank. :)
