hi guys do any of you know what the pump for hydraulics flow rate is ie gallons a minute on the ym 1500 to see what log splitter would be best. thanks

Check on your hydraulic pump for the data plate. It will probably say 5cc/rev, meaning it displaces 5 cubic centimeters of fluid per revolution, which works out to about 2.6 GPM at 2000 RPM. I don't think this is anywhere near the volume needed to run a splitter at a reasonable speed with sufficient splitting power, but I've never used one.

no im pretty sure it wont but just wanted to know what you guys thought about it i think its either a bigger compact? or a pto drive splitter ?

I wouldn't give up yet. My loader runs ok off what I think is that same pump. It's not real fast, but running from the tractor hydraulics is simpler and cheaper than adding a pto pump. I suggest research some more. There must be someone on here who has tried both.

i have a 14 ton splitter, have had for more than 12 months but still have not plumbed it up so i cant tell you yet how well it works.

i wanted one and think i posted on attachments the pic of one i found. one they said the price was to high for it, which i really wasent asking but it looked pretty normal sized for a splitter, and they said the same i have about 2.5gpm and it would take something like 30 to 45 seconds to cycle the thing at operating speed! and most folks high idle when using a splitter, which u cant do.

o ive seen some here they say they are for compact tractors but i dont know if they are newer compacts and have bigger pumps they dont say? they do sell one here with the pto pump combined buts its around £500+ more than a standard splitter. what size of compacts have quite a good size pump on them or are newer compacts the way to go for plumbed pipe work?

i think there more designed for older tractors and or newer ones like kubota or jd that have loaders and larger pumps.

I think pressure is going to be more important than volume in priority these tractor pumps are about 2200-2500 max psi. JJ can give you more info than me on specifics but I converted my 5hp 3000 psi 2 stage splitter to tractor hydraulics last year.

A pto pump will be the way to go imho and you will need a reservoir or use the one thats on the splitter now.

Granted it works and does what I intended but it is slow and the power is down quite a bit from the little gas engine that used to run it. hth

edit: Talking about other CUT that may run one cant help there but-fyi if this helps I believe my pump is around 7 or 8 gpm and is set @ 2250 psi (think thats right) and am using a 3.5" x 24" cyl which @ 3000 psi is rated @ about 20 tons. My setup now is no where near as powerful or fast as the 5hp 2 stage pump gas engine was. I put a 2 stage control valve on it for regen speed @ low psi and it helps to have the 2 speeds but is lacking on power, in fact I think I remember it only being about 14t or less? I had a thread about it awhile back if interested. Here it is http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/hydraulics/221064-need-pto-log-splitter-guru.html
