Yanmar pricing, too high?

I rented and considered buying a Yanmar 4T excavator and its pricing was competitive. But finally I decided on a tractor with loader and backhoe.

Now, at least here in TX, a Yanmar YT347 tractor with backhoe is priced 10 grand above a comparable Kubota MX5200. What the heck? Both are good products imho. I don't get why Yanmar would price tractors higher than average, while its excavators are a great deal. Sure, the YT has a cabin, but is that worth $10k?

Generally speaking you can't compare Ag equipment with Construction Equipment. The latter being generally heavier, more durable and usually much more expensive. A Yanmar, anything is top notch in my book though.

A YT347 w/cab has a more advanced transmission and many more creature comforts than an open station Kubota MX of similar HP.

Look up the price of a Kubota Grand L4760 w/cab and I bet you'll see a competitive difference.

I should have mentioned that the MX5200 I spec'd was with hydrostatic drive option. Kub is bringing out a cabin model soon, but I don't know its prices yet.

Smaller tractor cabs run $6K+ so until its an apples to apple comparison I wouldn't say the Yanmar is so much more costly.

Did this take into account the 5 to 6k cash back from yanmar? Should be comparing it to the 4050 Grand L, not the MX. Also, you can get the 347 without the cab, that alone will knock about 7k off the price.

When I bought my 359, it was about 5k cheaper then the comparable Grand L 4060.

If you are comparing it to a normal L, its apples to bananas.

Can you tell me more about that ihmt stuff? I'm already a pig in slop with hydrostatic. Used to run an old IH with a stick.

Reno, to put it simply, on a hydro the more speed pr torque you pull the more oil and pressure that flows through the transmission. This creates heat and lost horsepower.

The ihmt has the highest oil flow at rest. As it reaches working speed the transmission "locks" and doesnt bypass. Hence, no HP lose or heat build up. You can control this sweet spot via the A/B mode.

Hence, you have the convenience of a hst for the most part but can still plow or pull with it.

So it's an improved variable drive with no pumping losses once speed is stabilized? I saw a video of it that looks impressive. Wonder how it works? It has a swash plate but it locks to the output. Yanmar Showcases YT3 Tractor - YouTube
I know a lot of farmers who plow with HST. But most keep an older workhorse in the barn with manual gears too.

I know of no farms who do serious tillage (pull, not pto powered) work with hst. Too much power loss and too much heat. Powershift, csv, and others yes. Tillage eats HST for lunch (coming from a dry land farming guy).

And that video is what I was looking for.

In real work use, i love it better then a hst. Works fine for loading, better for mowing / spraying / etc, much better for tillage like plowing, sub soiling, disking, etc.

Is anyone here wanting to buy a 100 hp or bigger tractor to pull an implement across a field? Your point is?

I know people who pull a disc or sub soiler with smaller machines. Was just pointing out the issue with all hst. They are great for loading work and ok for mowing work. But they do produce more heat and rob more power at working ranging then a gear or the ihmt tranny. That is all.
