I have had spindle breakage problems with my 336d. I have a front end loader but do not load it heavilly, it is the factory loader. Also now a front wheel seal is leaking badly. Any of you have any similar problems or corrections. I just overhauled the motor and clutch so I do not want to get rid of it but this has been a problem.

Yanmar made the front spindle in three different ways. Only the heavy duty one is worth installing. Although a little pricey, it is really worth it.

I have been unable to locate the spindles now. They may have been discontinued. I bought two from a Texas company but they both broke in less than 10 hours while I was mowing. They were aftermarket made in China and perhaps the heat treat was bad. The Texas Co. asked for one back to exam. They just said I should not have a loader on the tractor. They never told me that when I was buying, never gave me a credit or a new part nor returned my old one after request and I paid the shipping to get it back to them. Frustrating to have a tractor one is now hesitant to use, especially with not many hours since the clutch and engine rebuild. Thanks for the information.

It may actually be us :(. I think I may actually remember something about this. Unfortunately, with some serial numbered 336D tractors there is nothing that we can do at the moment.

There is only one company building those spindles to my knowledge (not from China though). We have had a fair amount of trouble with them but always
1) The customer has a loader installed
2) The factory spindles have always broken too.

We did send a couple broken spindles into our supplier and they said they were not defective & not covered by warranty.

It is our opinion that Yanmar must have had trouble with that design (since they upgraded it two times and the factory spindles are breaking too) and that any reproduction of that "not so great" design will have the same inherited design flaws- they are just too weak for loader use. Until someone reproduces a full upgrade kit including bigger shafts, gears, & gear housings ( I think it was around $600 per side from Yanmar) the problem will never be fixed on certain serial number machines.

We have been warning customers for at least a year when those spindles are ordered so, if you did get them from us it may have been before that.

My 169D has a similar problem. it is leaking badly there. Odly enough, the oli only spills out at certain times. it wont leak when im using it but it will leak when it is parked in the garage. In the garage, it will be fine but then one night it will just leak oil everywhere. I have it on newspapers to contain the spills but I have been wondering a few things. Is it hard to get a new seal? Are they very costly? Is it safe to use it this winter for possible snow removal? I would probably bring it down to my grandpa's in january to fix it and since im doing rototilling for some people in town. I dont have a FEL yet so there isnt much weight and i removed 120 pounds of weights off the front end to reduce weight. My yanmar was previously uded by a christmas tree farmer to mow in between rows and do some cultivating. What is the best thing to do?

I have the YANMAR heavy duty spindles in stock. It is not difficult to convert your early model YM336D to the H.D. spindles. I have converted many of the early and mid production models to the heavy duty system and never had one break. Contact me for info and price.

I'm interested to know what is considered an early modle. I have a 336D with a loader and have moved some pretty large loads with no ill effects. Acording to the stamp on the wheels it is a 1985.

Thanks

Joe
