When I aquired this engine, it had no wiring harness or relays. I can handle the wiring for the fuel solenoid, starter, and temp/oil senders. What I'm wondering about is the glow plugs. Do I need a relay? or can I wire 12 v to a push button type switch and on to the plugs so they only heat while you're holding the button in? Is there anything about the relay that reduces the voltage/amps to the plugs? This engine uses the NGK y702R which according to NGK is a self-regulating glowplug, hotter it gets, the less current it pulls, so I think I just have to provide it power.....
Anyone have any input/advice?

Many Thanks!

You do not need the relay. You just need a switch heavy enough to carry enough current to provide the glowplugs. I don't know how much amperage the glowplugs pull so I can not tell you the rating of the switch that you need.
I just did this same thing to my Yanmar excavator with a 3T80L engine and it used a CH14079 glowplug. I ran #12 gauge wire and used a Briggs-Stratton push starter switch and it works great. The glowplug only works while you hold the switch which you said.
Hope this helps and Good Luck

Many Thanks - I think mine pull about 45 amps each for a few seconds, then drop down to about 8 amps per. I understand that the danger to glow plugs seems to be over voltage, so maybe I should put some type of resistor in the circuit to knock it down to 11v or 12v max? I know a good battery usually shows around 13.5v....
