I have a 13.5 HP Yanmar which is about25 years old and I need a little bigger for our yard and some farm chores (on a real farm). I'm looking at a 27 HP 276D with a power shift which is about the same vintage as mine. It shows about 900 hrs and thats how the tractor looks. I know Yanmar engines are near bullet proof but I'm wondering about the powershift. And I'm wondering about parts availability, for the whole tractor. This is not a grey market tractor. Any comments would be appreciated

James:

I can tell you this, the powershift is just as bullet proof as you say....great tranny.

parts availability I can't say on that model but a little over a year ago I repainted a YM187 (also not a gray market) and some what of an orphan model from Yanmar in the states and I had very little problem getting parts, and I ordered some weird little parts.

Check with local tractor dealers to see if any are Yanmar parts dealers. There are 2 within 30 miles of me. Also ask if the tractor has a JD counterpart. My 180D is similar to a JD 650; the difference is the YM has a 3 cyl. engine, the JD a 2. This also requires some other parts differences, such as the length of the front drive shaft. Rear wheels are also different. Otherwise, most parts are interchangable.

You will need to provide YM a serial number when ordering parts. YM parts come out of Chicago and take 9 days to get to me (5 business days plus weekends), JD parts come overnight if they aren't in stock. So far, all the YM parts have had to be ordered, except for normal maintenance items such as filters.

Some gray market dealers claim they can get parts more reliably than I can get them for my domestic model. I don't know if this is true. I do know that the parts I get are new while some gray market dealers pull parts off tractors they part out.

The 276D is a good machine, I have the 2310 which is the japanese domestic version of the 276 which was the American export model...same engine..same tranny, good tractor, solid, I have had mine for almost 6 years and have had few problems which either a dealer here was able to get me parts for. I for one would go for it, plus it is 4WD which is a plus
