There is a TBN member who specializes in diesel injector pumps. It's not the sort of thing that most mechanics do themselves.

If your major concern is dropping and losing parts try spreading a clean sheet (preferably white) under and around the engine area. Any small parts falling onto the sheet should be easily seen and recovered.
