My Yanmar 226D Powershift transmission is slipping (no power in 1st gear). Anyone parting a Yanmar tractor that would like to sell the trans - please respond. Will need to verify a match. Thanks - Chris Thomson.

I would think you would be ahead of the game to repair yours rather than replace with a used trans that may also need repair. As I understand it, there are clutches/springs that need replacement.

You may not need to rebuild the transmission. I have heard quite a few cases where the only thing needed was to rebuild the power shift shifter. It is really a hydraulic valve, and has a number of springs and o-rings. I think I'd start there as it is much less expensive than rebuilding or replacing the tranny.

Ernie,
Thanks for the offer, I'd love to have it, But seeing as I'm on the east coast, getting that engine here would be an interesting proposition. My wife his heading for Los Angeles later this week, but I don't think she could fit it in her carry-on luggage. And even if she could, I'm sure she would say something like "What do you need that for? When are you selling that tractor?"

I replaced the main clutch & pressure plate but repairing the power shift tranie is a bit more than I can handle (review the the shop manual). JD wants $3000+ to do the job.

The JD dealer obviously doesn't want the work. I never worked on one, but I can't believe their can be that much to it, it's not an automatic transmission. I would at least remove the shifter cover for a look see and have a parts manual on hand.
