STARTER PROBLEMS CONTIUE, ALL CONNECTIONS GOOD AND CLEAN . BATTERY ALWAYS ON TRICKLE STARTER WILL NOT CRANK OVER ONE REVOLUTION WITHOUT DECOMPRESS. BURNING SMEEL COMING FROM STARTER SO I REMOVED AND WENT TO PARTS STORE WITH NO LUCK FINDING MATCH UP. SHOULD I BRING TO REBUILD SHOP OR CAN I MATCH UP WITH SOMETHING ELSE?? ALSO THIS GREY MARKET APPEARS TO HAVE SMALL PLASTIC BOWL THAT CONNECTS TO INTAKE MANIFOLD GLOW PLUG/ THEN WIRED TO WHAT APPEARS TO BE LARGE STARTER BUTTON ON DASH. THIS ALSO HAS TS ON IGNITION SWITCH BUT KEY WILL NOT TURN IN THAT DIRECTION? I IMAGINE YOU HAVE TO FILL LITTLE BOWL WITH FUEL FOR THIS TO WORK. I THINK MAYBE BIG STARTER BUTTON WAS BYPASS FOR IGNITION SWITCH? AS YOU CAN SEE I NEED HELP!!

Yep.....take starter to your rebuilder and should be able to fix for around a $100.

Thermostart bowl need fuel to assist in cold start. Should check switch to igniter wire with volt meter to make sure it is live (hot)

Good luck, Mark

Ditto what mark said. It is very likely the oem switch failed, and a non oem one was substituted. It is definately thermostart.. not a glow plug system. If the starter won't spin any better with jumper cables from a known good battery.. time for a rebuild. I've had lots of starters rebuilt by mom-n-pop stores.. great results usually less than a c-note.

The last starter I had rebuilt was for a grey market Iseki tractor and it cost a whopping $25.

That is, without a doubt, the best price I have ever heard of. I try and tare them apart in hopes of a simple fix. Sometimes I get lucky. I think $85. was the best deal I've had.

The last one I had repaired cost $40. They said it was full of mud.

Actually I think the exact price was $28. When I called to ask if it was finished I asked the cost. I thought he said $200. I almost fell out of my chair. I didn't say anything until I got to the shop. I was ready to have words with him and just go buy a new one else where. I told him what I thought he said and he just laughed.

update your info so we can tell where u are at. How cold is it there? What weight oil r u using? Your starter maybe ok. It takes more hp then these starter motors have to turn a cold engine with good compression. If u use winter weighted oil it helps a bunch. Try heating your engine up a little. Your black button may operate your ts. sounds like they replaced your starter switch with a reg ingnition switch and a black button to run your ts. only crank your starter for 10 seconds at a time. buy a manual.

THANKS FOR HELP GUYS, STARTER AT REBUILD SHOP AND THEY SAID I CAN HAVE NEXT DAY, ALSO i DO BELIEVE TS SWITCH WAS MODIFIED AND I WILL CHECK WITH VOLT METER TO INSURE IT IS HOT. AS FAR AS OIL GOES TRACTOR CAME FROM TEXAS TO JERSEY SO IT PROBABLY IS HEAVY GRADE BUT EVEN IN 40-50 DEGREE WEATHER STARTER WAS HAVING PROBLEMS TURNING OVER AND I DONT THINK THIS IS NORMAL. WEATHER WAS 26 DEGREES WHEN I DECIDED I HAD ENOUGH AND REMOVED STARTER.

Your ignition lock and/or key probably went bad preventing turning to TS, and a previous owner bypassed the lock to a separate switch. That happened on my YM2000B, along with losing all electrical at times. Ordered a new lock with keys and new lock w/old key would work, or old lock w/new key would work.
