I just bought a Yanmar 1610. We had to pull the tractor off to get it started, but it ran good, engine was strong and sounded good. It has very serious blowback through the tube coming from the valve cover. The man told me he rolled it over on its side one day, and turned it back upright. It ran good after that but started having the blowback issue. The engine runs so good and strong I have a hard time believing the engine is gone. Anyone know of what else might be the problem or what to do? Until this week the tractor has been sitting up.

My 2-cents would be to have the machine upright, pour about 2 or 3 ozs of Seafoam in the top of each cly over the piston, let it soak for a few hours. The guys in the Yanmar section could tell you how to get the Seafoam in there.

You've purchased a forty year old tractor. How many hours are on the tractor? I don't think rolling the tractor onto its side caused the blow by problem. It sounds more age and wear related - rings or valves. You could start with a compression test and make some decisions based on that. Not sure I agree that blow by issue was not caused by rolling over.
If the tractor was running (which they usually are) while on its side and oil pump failed to pickup oil damage could have easily happened while in this state. It would not take long for this to happen.
I do expect that there is mechanical damage, however check you valve clearance. It is a normal maintenance procedure, but one that is frequently not done. I believe the spec for your machine is 0.006”.
Following this adjustment and you still experience the blow by, do the compression test.
