Yanmar 1510D won't start but cranks

Ok, never mind on the parts list. He found the problem. The govenor weights are all bent . He's recommending that I consider replacing the tractor as in his opinion this is a fatigue issue due to the age of the tractor.

Your opening statement stated the tractor had run like a champion until yesterday. If that is a true statement I can't understand replacing the tractor. Certainly not there and might change my mind if I could see it. While there might be a good chance the governor parts might be hard to find and maybe come from a parts tractor it would seem to me to be worth the effort to repair. Just an opinion and it might change if I could see what the mechanic sees.

It did run good, but actually I opened this thread back in January . The mechanic couldn't believe that it wasn't making some kind of funny noise, or that it was even running. The govenor weights are both bent and jammed down in the gear. He showed them to me. This guy is good, he does this for a living and he's done it for years. He said that this is a fatigue issue and his concern is that if he repairs it that it could be that he's going to find more wrong with it once he tears it apart. Or that something else will go wrong in the engine in a month or two after he fixes this issue. I'm not thrilled with his diagnosis either, winston. But he even said that if it was his tractor he would replace even though he works on them for a living.

That will be your call. I cetainly don't want to diagnose your tractors condition over the internet. I do know to replace it is going to be few thousand dollars. Best of luck in what ever you do. :thumbsup:

I have doubts about this mechanic. This is NOT a fatigue issue. Something, (a clip or pin) probably came loose to allow thes weights to fail. I have disabled several failed governors and continued running. (Never on a Yanmar though). Engines is engines.
