yanmar 1500d amp meter

HELP! When connecting an amp meter on this tractor, do you connect the + (pos) to the battery + (pos) and the - (neg) to ground or what? Need a simple wiring diagram....

If your using the amp meter to monitor your charging system, it would be wired as so.....

The alternator output on these things is so pitiful (approx 4 or 5 amps max on the 1500) that it won't show much on standard automotive ammeters, typically +/- 30 or more amps full scale. I put a voltmeter on mine and find it more useful. Did you find an ammeter with a lower scale? I wouldn't mind changing mine.
