XR4100 series remote starter install. Completed!

I finished installing my remote starter system in my XR4140HC today. I'll be writing up a few notes with wiring locations and color codes for anyone who wants to do the same. I search everywhere on here and couldn't find any real info, so I'll start it. Give me a couple days. Not to bad for under $100 and has 2way remotes so it tells you if it started.



And YES, it senses the glow plugs to know when to start.

ok, here are the details:

I bought a 2-way remote start system, crimestopper RS7-G5 from amazon for under $80 shipped.

There were 10 total wires that needed connection, including the ground wire. Here are the wires and locations I used in my XR 4100 series LS Tractor.

I will list the in the following order: Remote start wire = Tractor wire , location in tractor

Harness 1:
Horn (yellow) = White wire on the horn switch
Ground (black) = any ground point on tractor
Tach (red/white) = Blue (#2) on the 16 pin connector on the back of the dash cluster
Parking lights (white) = green wire on the corner light switch (below steering wheel) I used these lights instead of the parking lights
Brake Switch (purple) = Green wire, above the brake pedal
Parking light power input (red/black) = I connected this to one of the red wires (part of the other remote system wiring harness) that connect to the ignition switch
Glow Plug (Pink) = Dark Green (#2) on the 12 pin connector on the back of the dash cluster

Harness 2:
12v Battery (red 2 wires with fuses) = Black/white wire on the back of the ignition switch
Starter (brown) = red/yellow on the back of the ignition switch
12V switched Ignition (Pink) = white/red wire on back of the ignition switch


That's all the connections needed. The default config on the remote start will check the glow plugs before starting, will start in about 30 seconds, will run for 20 minutes before shutting off by itself.

** notes:

I changed the wait time to start to 15 seconds, set it to 2-way remote so it will tell me if it started or not, changed the start button sequence on the remote for 2 presses to begin the remote start system. when you get in the tractor, insert the key, turn it to run (not start), then press the brake pedal to cancel the timer and use the tractor normally.

If you use the parking brake, it will not start because it activates the brake pedal switch.

This sounds like a great idea! I have the XR4145, and I believe it won't start unless the parking brake is set. Or maybe I'm thinking that because my parking brake is always set. Why would the remote start not work if the parking brake is set? Seems like it should be the other way around, for safety sake if nothing else. Are there options for setting something else to turn the timer off? Maybe a momentary switch in one of the unused spots on the dash?

It's funny you say that. After having it installed and thinking about it, I changed how the brake switch works (to override the start system). I put in a push button on the empty dash spaces instead of the brake pedal so that I could use the parking brake and remote start system.

How did that change your wiring, if I might ask? Would the purple wire on the remote start be connected to the pushbutton in that case, and then the other side of the pushbutton to ground?

Actually in this case, the pushbutton is wired to the purple wire the other side of the pushbutton is connected to a 12 V positive source when running

*** Horn (yellow) = NOT NEEDED unit requires a (-) negative connection.
Ground (black) = any ground point on tractor
*** Tach (red/white) = NOT NEEDED Tractor uses a different type of tach signal. Unit monitors voltage instead (by Default)
*** Glow Plug (Pink) = NOT NEEDED Unit requires a (-) negitive signal, the tractor light uses a 12V (+) signal. Unit will wait a certain number of seconds unit it tries to start (20 seconds by default)

-- Parking lights (white) = green wire on the corner light switch (below steering wheel) I used these lights instead of the parking lights.

-- Parking light power input (red/black) = I connected this to one of the red wires (part of the other remote system wiring harness) that connect to the ignition switch.

-- Brake Switch (purple) = Green wire, above the brake pedal. If you still want use of the parking brake, connect a +12V wire to a momentary pushbutton switch and to the purple wire of the unit. This allows for use of the parking brake and the switch will disable the remote start instead of the brake switch. I connected this to the same connection as the Parking light power input (red/black) above.

Harness 2:
-- 12v Battery (red 2 wires with fuses) = Black/white wire on the back of the ignition switch

-- Starter (brown) = red/yellow on the back of the ignition switch

-- 12V switched Ignition (Pink) = white/red wire on back of the ignition switch

Thanks for putting this together. Installed exact unit in my tractor in 2 hours with zero issues. Keep in mind the price on amazon fluctuates between $85 out of stock and $119 in stock. Purchased when out of stock and received a week later.

how does this give you glow plug timing run before start up

You can set it with a manual delay for glow plug warm up of 10, 15, or 20 seconds. I have 15 second delay set.

I think the biggest plus of installing the remote start is when I enter the cab while it is remote started I can hit the button for the interior light and find the keyhole at night.

I am missing something here. I do not understand how the glow plugs are powered with the described wiring. Perhaps the XR4100 works differently. Every tractor I ever used has one of three set ups for starting. Modern tractors including my current Kubota have a four position ignition switch.

1. Off
2. On/Run
3. Glow Plugs
4. Start

To start, you have to turn on, then to the first detent for glow plugs as required, then to start position to start it. When you let go of the key, it goes all the way back to On.

Have used older tractors that have a two position switch (On and Start) and a separate button for the glow plugs.

Used some really old tractors that have no key and just a button for glow plugs and a button for starting.

Does the XR4100 start differently? If not, how does the wiring you describe provide power to the glow plugs. I understand how you set a delay for them in the remote starter and why you did not use the glow plug light. But not how the glow plugs are actually turned on. Where in your wiring connections did you connect to the glow plugs?

My XR4140 has a 3 position start switch just like my car. 1) Off Position (Labeled STOP) 2) Accs / Run Position (Labeled Power/Glow Plug) 3) Start Position (Labeled Start).

The Remote start system doesn't actually wire to the glow plug, since the "Acc Run position powers the glow plug. Instead, it supplies a relay power source to provide power to the "Acc / Run" switch section on a time delay of 15 seconds. before the starter is activated. That allows the glow plug time to get hot and the dash light goes out (automatically when the plug is hot enough) before the remote start / tractor begins the startup process. I hope that makes sense.
