XR 4040 or 4140, which will I get?

Been looking at the 4140HC as a possible replacement to my 4041EZ ... just don't know enough about the LS motor in terms of reliability (to new). Had a 3135HC as a loaner for a couple of weeks and it seemed strong (same motor as the 4140) - just a little smaller frame.

I'm sure your 4041 has been a reliable work horse. My only LS experience is with my XR4140HC. My neighbor, who owns a well drilling / excavating company, used my tractor this winter to help blow out snow from our gravel road. He owns skid loaders, mini excavators up to very large excavators etc. He said he was extremely impressed with the whole tractor.....especially the motor. He said the motor is much smoother at rpm's above 2000 than any of his Yanmar engined equipment. He also said the LS motor is much quieter than any Yanmar he's ever owned. His wife says......he's looking at buying one for use at his home......which says a fair amount to me regarding my choice in compact tractors.

I have about 700hours on the 4041 and except for the "EZ" part (there is a reason the EZ shift is no longer offered by LS) it has been pretty well trouble free. But I am retired now and the 4140HC appeals to me - not so much the tier 4 stuff - but the "HC" appeals to me ... especially in the winter up here.

So far, for me, the tier 4 equipment has been seamless. I'm very thankful they didn't include urea injection.

The cab has been invaluable this winter......I end up snow blowing a little over a mile long stretch. I sit in the cab, without my jacket on and run the temp dial less than 50% of its adjustability. Conversely, in the hot weather, the air-conditioning works very well. I also appreciate hydrostatic drive. This makes it much easier for my wife and children to hop in the cab and help me out from time to time.

Anyway.....I think LS offers a tremendous value for the compact diesel tractor market. I had originally thought I "Needed " a Kubota........but the more I work my LS, the more I'm glad I purchased an LS.

I agree ... I am on my 3rd one (picked up a 4140HC today).
