LS 4140 Shuttle Cab
Have been reading the LS treads here for past year. This is first post, really appreciate the quality of discourse and knowledge on these forums

About to replace my JD 770 that was damaged when my home burned down recently. Building new home on 30+ forested acres and about to place order for LS tractor. Only one LS dealer even remotely close. He has good reputation. Wants $22,500 for XR 4040, and $23,250 for XR 4140, both are out the door with loader and canopy.
Drove the 4040 and loved it. Am familiar with common rail & longer time between regens of 4140. Would be nice to save $750 to put towards attachments, but wonder if the 4140 is a better choice in the long run. Can't really go wrong with either. But would appreciate advice from folks with these models if you have reasons for choosing one over the other.

I just bought the xr4140h so that would be my vote but I don't think either machine would be a bad choice.

Getting delivery of it today so take my opion with a grain of salt :)

Decided to go with 4140. Dealer made offer couldn't refuse and placed order for XR 4140 Cab.

WoooHooooo!

Thanks for the replies.

Your going to love that cab. I just spent most of the day running a bush hog. Dust and grass swirling and blowing everywhere and there I am riding along in cab enjoying the well filtered air. Its worth every penny!

Gear or HST? And why you went with either. Just curious.

Pictures please and see if you can get filters for it yet. Filters for the 4100 series are still scarce. I just got my 50hr filter set last week.

Yeah, I move and blow a lot of snow where we have snow for 6-7 months out of the year. Will be so sweet to not look, and feel, like a frozen Sasquatch. Appreciate your comments about warm weather use...hadn't really considered how nice it will be in temps above freezing.

Went with gear. Have used HST and appreciate its advantages in some situations. But have used gears in almost all my vehicles and feel comfortable and at home with the rhythm and balance of gears. Also, hadn't originally expected to get a cab because of cost, but dealer lured me with a great price and I stretched finances...another grand for HST just wasn't conducive to marital bliss.

Would dearly love to provide pics, but tractor was just ordered and is weeks away....sigh.

Thanks for jogging my mind about filters, so stoked about the whole cab package I forgot them. Will call Monday to get in line for them. Also need to see if can get a shop manual.

You won't regret the gear drive. It will use less fuel and you have a foot throttle which is more conductive to loader use. I remember that 7 months of snow too!! Lived just South of you in Stone LAke near Hayward in 2004......

You made a great choice. The improved fuel economy on the 4100 series will eventually make up the price difference and then some. The 4000 series will eventually go away I suspect once the new LS motor in the 4100s has proven itself.

Nice to hear about improved fuel economy. Just got word it will be delivered Monday am. Had them install a third function for snow plow angling. Also had them install hoses to rear for total of three outlets on rear. These hoses will be switched as needed with hoses from the front to make the third function useful for front or rear attachments. Pretty stoked about the new tractor; had used a nice but too small JD 770 since 1990.
