Xj2025 Cold start...

Came home and my tractor was getting its weekly dose of snow, so I thought I would see if it could cold start with out using the glow plugs...

LS XJ2025 Tractor - cold start - no plugs... - YouTube

why? because I could...

Why would you do that to a poor defenseless engine? The LS's do seem to start rather well though. My dealer added on a lower radiator hose in-line heater and I plug in anytime the temp is below 30 degrees F. After 20-30 minutes, the glow plugs don't even energize.

Interesting.

I use my preheat all the time on first start of day or if it has been sitting long enough for engine to really cool back down. I do that regardless of outside temp.

What I don't know is how long I should hold for preheat so typically do about 10 sec. I thought the dash light should go out letting you know they are hot, but appears it does not and will stay lit indefinitely - that or I count 10 seconds way too fast :)

But it starts super easy. As fast as a new car does.

6-10 seconds is perfect for 20ーf and up. These smaller machines don't have a timer for the glow plugs. I only use the plugs in the winter, and only plug in the engine heater that is in the radiator hose when I remember.... which is rare.

I kinda felt bad for it...not really.... LOL but I watch videos on youtube where people go out and do a "cold start" on their diesel and they use the plugs and its going to start... the questions is will it start with out the plugs

My Cummins Ram truck never gets plugged in (really should remember to plug it in) and I have had no issues starting it even down to -5°f this year, I just click the remote start button and it does what it needs to do and starts right up. Im pretty sure intake grid heaters are magic!
