X749 or ZTR

Im new here and i have been mowing lawns for 2 years now with a cub cadet 1330 and ive been strongly looking at a new machine i have got it down to a X749 or a ZTR, I feel the ZTR would be a better fit for just plain mowing but im offering to plant gardens next year and the 3 point hitch on the 749 with come in handy for the disk we have. Im looking at a 60-62" deck aswell I will still have the cub for a few more years for the smaller areas until i get more funds for a ZTR. What does everyone think??

well i did a search on this and it turns out there is more guys thinking about this then just me, from what i read i think im going to get the X749 for its 3point hitch and pto option, I will be able to mow and spread seed and till a garden all with the same machine.. Then maybe next year i will look at a ZTR.

It all depends on your individual needs, and what you want the machine to do for you.

As you stated, the X749 will do lots of different tasks, and I've read here that it is about the best mowing machine you can get for a belly mower type tractor.

Myself, I love to mow, and since I've gone to a ZTR, I will never mow with anything else. But...it is a one use machine for sure.

So now I have a 2520 for everything else, and my 757 for pure mowing enjoyment.

I have used an X 595 and a 757 JD ZTR. I have mentioned in previous posts the ZTR was faster but not by a tremendous amount. In my opinion, it was not enough to give up the versatility of an X series tractor--unless one was mowing for a living where saving one hour per day would really weigh out over the fiscal year. I am also reasonably good at operating a ZTR and do not feel the general lack of significant time differences had that much to do with operator. The best mowing combination I have ever used is a 3720 with a 72" RFM, for cut quality and almost for speed--but that is another machine entirely.
