Comparison X748 - 47" or 54" Snow blower??

Looking to buy a snow thrower for my X748. I don't which size?? 47" to small - 54" to big??

It's pretty hard to make a small snow blower bigger. You can always take less of a cut with a bigger blower if the load is too much. I'm pretty sure you have a hydrostatic transmission so going slow enough shouldn't be a problem.

I had a 47" with a X740. 270# man, Loaded tires, chains, 200# of wheel weights. The 47" seemed plenty big to me with that size diesel tractor. With big snows of 6-12" or so I could take a slow first pass down the driveway, and then faster 1/2 passes after that. I hardly ever lost traction because of all the weight I had, even though a 2 wheel drive, but it was still slow going in deep snow.

If I didn't have much snow but a lot of area to clean up, maybe a 54" would work well.

I agree with Deere Dude. I have been using the 47" for 10+ years, first on the x585 currently on the x748. The tractor only has so much power. The 47" you have to slow down (especially going up slopes) unless it's like 1-3" of light fluffy snow, you can't just floor it and go as fast as you can. The 47" also allows getting in to tighter spaces if that matters to you or not. If you get the 54" you'll just go slower but make less passes and end up with the same result probably in the same amount of time.

Another vote for the 47. I've been using one on my X748 for 8 years, and it is the perfect size in my opinion.

47 works better for the x700

I think they are both good blowers. The biggest difference for me would be poly/plastic impeller vs steel impeller on the 47" so I find the 47" able to take a little more abuse in that regard.

I believe the newer 47-inch blowers also now have plastic impellers.
