X500 plow or snow pusher? Weights?

/ X500 plow or snow pusher? Weights? #11
I have installed wings on my X540 blade. The wings angle back so that I can also tilt the blade and use it as a plow. The wings do help gather the snow and also help reduce spillage off the leading edge when angled. I think filling the tires with fluid will add around 70 lbs / tire. Wheel weight another 40 - 50 / tire. These transaxles do NOT have a relief built in so the tires spin, drive belt slips, or something breaks.

Fluid in the tires and weights on the wheel will do all you need. Oh ya, chains.
I wouldn't hang anything on the back because I really don't think you will need it.

I have and had the next size larger for many years and that is all i did and never had a problem. The 500s are beefy enough for wheel weights and fluid.

Thanks for your input and advice.

If anyone has more input on adding wings to a plow to make it more of a snow pusher I'd love to hear your experience. Otherwise I'll stick with the 44" plow.

I'm interested to know about the wings you added. With the plow straight, could you push much snow very far?

Depends on the condition of the snow. Last year we had a couple of super heavy wet snows that you couldn't push straight or angled. Normal snow fall it will roll snow over the top of the blade. If I get a chance tomorrow I will try and post some pictures of the wings.

Took a couple of pictures of my 48" blade with the wings. Not sure were my son found these wings but they were made for these plows. I also have the manual tilt package installed so can tilt the blade without getting off the seat. I do not have any extra weight but do have chains. For real deep heavy snow I have a walk behind snow blower and or the Branson with a blade or the FEL.

I'm new to the forum here, but my Dad has been on here forever and I've been a lurker. I just a picked up a 2014 x500. I got a 44" blade off a x300 that will work on it. I just have a couple questions:

With the amount of snow you probably get in NB, I suspect, when you need it most this will not be a satisfactory solution. I used to have a Honda 6522 4x4 that weighed a lot more than an X500. For light fluffy snow - no problem, but heavy / wet - not the greatest. If you have the blade, give it a try, but with only two wheel drive don't expect too much.
