I'm ready to buy a mower and wonder if there's some real-world advise for deciding between these two... I have a tractor w/ FEL & brush hog, etc. to do snow clearing, etc. So the purpose of the tractor is to be a dedicated mower.

I haven't ever used a zero-turn. I've heard the ride is rough. Any comments?

I'm looking for the best quality cut - not necessarily in the shortest amount of time. After all, it's only an acre, so I'm guessing the difference between the two is less than 10 minutes.

Also, resale-wise, which do you think is better?

Thanks.

Put this in the Deere Lawn forum and you'll get more replies.

Problem is... I can't find it! If I go under "forums," then "related equipment," then "lawn and garden..." I can't find John Deere, just most every other brand.

What forum are you speaking of? Thanks!

How did you do that?!

I've spent 3 or 4 years on this site and never looked up threads from the manufacturers list - just from the drop-down menu under "forums" and, before the new format, from the "home page."

Thanks, Chuck!

On the drop down under Forums, just click John Deere. Not the subcategories to the right. That gets you to this.

Chuck:

I wish I could help with Facebook, but I avoid it altogether!

As Betty White said in her monologue on Saturday Night Live last week, "now that I understand what Facebook is, it seems like a great big waste of time!"

Considering your mention of slopes in the other thread and not trying to be a speed demon I would go with the X324. It will take just enough time to get the crankcase warmed up and running long enough to remove any moisture build up. Probably cut an acre in 45 minutes to an hour.

Some of the larger more expensive ZTRs' will do an acre in about 15 to 20 minutes but can be a rough ride too. For me I am not in that much of a hurry. This is the easiest part of lawn care.:D

For the best quality of cut you will want an up-front deck. A standard tractor will compress the lawn with the wide front tires and take away from curb appeal compared to a front mower or a ztr.
I actually had a F525 front mower and the cut was fantastic. I also have a 1435 front mower and a bunton walk behind. The cut in all of these machines is better than a belly mower.
Good luck.
