I had accumulated a brush pile the size of a mid sized car, so it was time for a chipper. Found a used one in an area classified guide. Went to look at it... it was in nice, nice condition. Always stored inside a heated garage... so i bought it ! It is a WW Grinder, Super Apache 240C. I didn't get a manual with it, so i was hoping someone here might be farmiliar with them. I've seen a couple on EBAY, but a Google search didn't find a website for the manufacturer. I was hoping to purchase a manual, and maybe have an outlet for new knives should i need them in the future. Anyone have any idea when this model might have been produced? I used it this weekend, and it has far exceded my expectations. I also found the shredder useful as well. thanks to anyone who might steer me toward a manual !!

That sounds like the address of the old TroyBilt factory before they went out of business. I think the Tomahawk chippers were made by WW Grinder.

That could certainly be the case...

I heard somewhere that MTD did NOT get the rights to the existing chippers when they bought Troybilt, and this could explain why...

The new Troybilt chippers appear to be just MTDs, and bear no resemblance to the old ones...

There is a label on it that claims it was made in Witchita, Kansas. Perhaps they had a N.Y. address too?

I thought that they'd been made in Kansas also, and had never heard of a NY address for them... I was just commenting that the NY address would explain them making the old Troybilt chippers.

The way companies have been bought and sold lately, and brand names absorbed, who knows... Maybe WW Grinder went under also, if they were building the Troybilt chippers.

I understand that many parts for the old Troybilts are no longer available... hope you don't run into that problem also.

At one time the company name was W.W. Feed Grinder Corporation. It appears that that corp. was disolved sometime in the mid 1980s. First incorporated in 1932 in Witchita, KS.

There was a listing for W.W. Grinder Corp. in Troy, NY, but according to the Kansas Secretary of State's website, this company was merged out of existence in the early 90s.

Here's a teaser.

PM me with your email address & I will scan the rest. I've been using mine all week.

Edit here - forgot to mention the knives. I had to have them custom made - Madreferee machined them for me - and another gentleman heat treated them. I'm embarrased to say that I forgot who /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I just bought or traded for this WW grinder, 12hp, starter/generator, runs great, but the blades are so dull you could not cut your self if you had to, Does any one know what angle to sharpen the blades, it is a nice piece of machinery and heavy, it has hammer's and blades, I am thinking this was the high end model cant find any numbers but I am getting ready to tear it down to get the roll of blades out, I think if the blades were sharp it could do some serious damage to some limbes, it has a big 2x2 foot hopper and a small one for little stuff. cant find one like it on the net, if any one can help me out with model, and sharping angel, I sure would appreciateFF craftsman- chipper 027.jpgFF craftsman- chipper 025.jpgFF craftsman- chipper 028.jpgFF craftsman- chipper 029.jpgFF craftsman- chipper 033.jpgFF craftsman- chipper 026.jpg it.

Got the use on the hoppers backwards. Top opening takes leaves and such to cut up. Small chute on side takes limbs. You will see the capacity is limited.

Manual is not going to help much. Simple machine that has not been made in at least 30 years. Replacement parts are common bearings etc. Grease where you can and run it 540 PTO speed. Keep hands out of the way. 500 dollar asking price common. PTO shaft rusted tight on mine for 325.

Thank you for getting back to me! I will follow your advice. I had thought about adding a couple of rods that hold the screen on the bottom maybe. I'll let you know how it works.

Good morning from the sierra nevada mountains...

I saw that you may have a WW Grinder 240c manual. My 240c is stuck and i cannot figure out how to check to see if it has a something in it or not.
The c240 came with my 8n and i havent used it yet.

If you can email to me also that would help this greenhorn keep his fingers.

Thank You.
