Can anyone point me to a reference like a manufacturers page or something that shows the different PTO shaft spline configurations? I have a mid PTO on a JD that has 15 splines and is 1" OD. I know the standard PTO is 6 splines @ 1 3/8". It would be nice to know what I'm asking for as I start to shop for a new shaft for my homebuilt snowblower. Thanks...

On your JD the mid PTO is probably 1000RPM . The 6 spline 1 3/8 is for a 540 RPM PTO. So now you know!
The mid PTO on my 3020 is a 1 3/8 and I think 13 spline- it is 1000 RPM only. The rear PTO is set up for both--all ya gotta do is switch shafts. Hope this helps! Good luck!!

Before standardization got the PTO shafts all the same it was sort of "manufacturer's choice". The early 8N Ferds and also the Ferguson tractors had a smaller shaft. My late forties Case VAI had an adapter on it to go to a smaller size from standard so evidentally the previous owner had a non-standard implement from another manufacturer to power up. I THINK John Deere has always had the standard size spline for 540 RPM, clear back to the inception of the PTO shaft in the two-cylinder models. The belly PTO was a different story, and I don't know what they ended up to be and even if they are some kind of standard size. Early Allis-Chalmers tractors had the pto under the belly with a shaft to the rear. So many variations!!!! Dave
